DAVID ALLEN
I am leaving David Allen's information on this page. This is not my lineage. After careful search on David Allen, I have concluded that the David Allen who married Martha Wray was most likely an older David Allen, and I base this find on a land record in Brunswick County, Virginia. In 1732 David Allen purchased land in Brunswick County. This older David died in 1789 in Spartanburg South Carolina, and believed to be an Uncle of the young David, who is son of Robert Allen, brother to David.

First there are several who are working the lineage of Robert Allen of Virginia who married Anne Reynolds and their son DAVID ALLEN, who married Martha Wray and removed from Wake County, North Carolina in 1788 to Spartanburg, South Carolina where David died in 1804. No longer working on David Allen, this was not the correct lineage of my Allen's.

The following is from my own research on the Early Allen & Reynold Families:

Robert Allen
Son of Thomas and Mary

Robert Allen was the son of Thomas Allen and his wife Anne Young? Robert was born about 1700 in Charles County, Maryland and died after 1767 in Wake County, North Carolina.

Robert was proven the son of Thomas by his Uncle James Allen when James made his will in 1732. The will states: To my nephew, Robert Allen son of Thomas Allen, a young mare, unbroken.

The lineage of Robert Allen was researched due to some genealogist stating Robert Allen was the father of David Allen and David Allen being the father of William Allen. It was not normal for the William Allen’s (Warren Co. Ms) family not to name any of their children names, like Reynolds, Drury, Young, David and Robert like others who descends from Robert Allen lineage. I could not accept others finding and found the proof when I began serious research.

Therefore, since I did extensive research on Robert Allen’s family, I am going to include the family. Robert is a brother to Joseph our Allen line.

Robert married Anne Reynolds, born about 1705 Maryland. She was the daughter of Edward Reynolds and unknown. Anne died before 1739 when her father made his will.

Robert Allen Sr. had gone from Charles County, Maryland to Calvert County, Maryland by 1722 when he witnessed a deed for his father in law, Edward Reynolds. This deed was recorded in Baltimore County, Maryland. This was the year that Reynold Allen was born and thought to be born at his grandfather’s home in Calvert County.

It appears the Reynold and the Allen family has many family connections. Edward Reynolds, son of Henry and Joyce Edward was born in Isle of Wight, Virginia. There were two early Reynold families who came to Virginia. This Reynold family came and settled in Isle of Wight, Virginia. They were from the same area of Gravesend, England as Immigrant Thomas Allen of Maryland. Christopher Reynolds and Edward Reynolds both moved from Isle of Wight, Virginia to Calvert County, Maryland. They were thought to be cousins.

Edward Reynolds made his will in 1739 in Calvert County, Maryland. His daughter Anne who married Robert Allen was deceased. From Reynolds Family records it states that Edward Reynolds named his grandson, after himself. It appears from Edwards Reynolds will that Reynolds was a favorite grand child, since he left him 150 pounds, when he reached the age of eighteen. Robert and Anne had other children. Reynolds is the only Allen child named in his will. Edward left his daughter Mary 50 pounds, her son Edward Wilson fifteen pounds and his son, Thomas Reynolds the residue of his estate.

Shortly after the death of Anne and her father Edward Reynolds, Robert returned to Virginia. Robert and his brother James joined their brother David and Joseph Allen in Brunswick County, Virginia by 1742 (Court minutes and Land records). Brunswick County was created from a part of Isle Of Wight, where the original Reynolds came. Robert had small children, David the youngest was a small boy of about 4 or 5 years old. Robert settled into Brunswick County and fell into Lunenburg County when it was created in 1746 from Brunswick.

Robert Allen and his sons, David, William, Josiah, Robert and Young were all tithables in Lunenburg County Virginia during the years from 1748 to 1752. His son Reynolds Allen (Sr.) and wife Mary sold land in Brunswick County, VA. 1745.

When the North Carolina and Virginia state line were surveyed in 1746, North Carolina gained land from Virginia and Robert and his son Reynolds Allen fell into Granville County, North Carolina, which later became Bute and then Warren County. North Carolina.

Children of Robert and Ann Reynolds Allen were:

5-1 Reynolds Allen, born 1722 in Calvert County, Maryland. He married Mary Swarmsted daughter of Nicholas Swarmsted.

5-2 Robert Allen, born 1724 Maryland Died after 1766 Wake County, NC.

5-3 William Allen, born 1725 Maryland and died on 8 April, 1789 in St. James Parish, Mecklenburg County, Virginia. William was the father of about twenty children.

5-4 Young Allen born in 1728 in Maryland and died before 7 February, 1775 in Wake County, North Carolina when his will was recorded. He names his wife Martha, and children; William, Young, Drury, David, Robin and Josiah in his will.

5-5 David Allen, born in 1730 in Maryland and died in 1804 Spartanburg, South Carolina.
