Welcome to the Bretz Register. I am in process of upgrading this site. I hope your visit is informative and pleasent.
This homepage is dedicated to those whom by desire, lineage or marriage have found an interest in the line of John Bretz of Fairfield, Ohio. I have chosen the name of Bretz Register for two reasons. The first is a historical tie to our past. There was indeed a document called the Bretz register maintained by members of the family in the early 1900's. It may still exist somewhere, hopefully preserved in some archive. The second reason is due to the limited resources for the Bretz name. Although I am not a genealogical researcher I would like to provide those with an interest in the various Bretz lines a place to begin their research.
I hope to gather genealogical information and historical accounts of ancestors and decendents for all who would like to visit. If you have information on a Bretz line of decent you would like to see included please contact me. I hope you enjoy this corner of the World Wide Web that I have made available to you. I hope you think enough of it to contribute your stories to make this the most exciting page a Bretz can find.

A majority of the information that is initially being posted here is based upon the work of J Harlen Bretz. Professor Bretz completed his report in 1949. The report details his background research on the Bretz surname and those who bore it. Professor Bretz authored a report which he titled AN INCOMPLETE GENEALOGY OF THE FAMILY OF JOHN BRETZ OF FAIRFIELD CO., OHIO, WITH A PARTIAL HISTORY OF ONE LINE OF DESCENT IN THIS FAMILY. J Harlen Bretz, University of Chicago, 1949.
While I may wish to respond quickly to inquires and suggestions the fact of the matter is my service in the U.S. Navy often calls me away for months at a time. I shall endeavor to quickly post any information I receive (unless that information pertains to a living person). All I can ask is for you to be patient.
Memorial Day 1925, a young couple pause for a picture, their futures ahead of them. A thousand words in each photo. See the history of the Bretz family as captured through the eye of the camera lens by clicking on the photograph. John Gerald and Pearl A (Hazel) Bretz.
My page of various links I think may be helpful. I did not intend to have very many, there are sites whose whole reason for being are to direct you to the Genealogy site which will fit your taste and they do links better. These links are designed to direct you to sites which are directly related to this by virtue of region and helpfulness. After exploring my neighborhood I realized there were many pages which were not on any genealogical web ring. So I decided to include those which are part of the Heartland neighborhood and it's suburbs.
Please contract with any suggestions or corrections.
Please let me know if you have any information or source material which you would like to add to this site.
