The Wildness of God

GOD'S CALL

We have seen that God's people suffered for hundreds of years and that God allowed it. He did not immediately step in to rescue them. But He DID have a plan to SAVE them. That plan was to be carried out through a man. Moses! Also, when sin entered the world and brought all it's terrible consequences upon humanity God allowed 4000 years to pass. But he DID have a plan to SAVE the world. That plan was to be carried out through a man. Christ Jesus!

"..there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." ACTS 4:12

"I am the way the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me." JOHN 14:6

"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." ROMANS 10:13

IT'S YOU, MOSES

Baby Moses had come floating down the Nile in a basket, into the life of Pharaoh's daughter. She brought him up as her son, a Prince of Egypt. For 40 years his life revolved around the palace, until one day he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. He looked around and seeing no-one he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. When Pharaoh heard about this he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled the country and went to live in Midian with a man named Jethro, a priest who had seven daughters. Moses married the eldest called Zipporah and spent another 40 years as a shepherd of Jethro's flocks, there in the desert. One day he led the sheep to the far side of the desert near Horeb, the mountain of God. There the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire, it did not burn up. He went over to look and God called to him.

"Moses! Moses! .. I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the Egyptians and to bring them out of that land into a good land, a land flowing with milk and honey. So now, go, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt."

NO WAY, LORD!

The LORD had no trouble getting Moses attention, but He did have trouble getting Moses to OBEY Him. Moses was shocked, and said, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" God answered, "I will be with you." Moses said, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and they ask for your Name. What shall I tell them?" The LORD replied, "Tell them I AM has sent me to you." Well after that Moses had a whole list of excuses, "Suppose they won't listen." "I'm not a good speaker." And finally, "Please send someone else to do it." He made the LORD so angry with him. He was some man - Moses!

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Can we ask, "Does the LORD have trouble getting YOU to OBEY Him? Are YOU struggling with doing the will of God at the moment? Perhaps, like Moses, you have all the excuses of the day and finally you just say, "NO WAY, LORD!" Well it is not by chance that you are reading this today. God is calling you, once again. Maybe you are not a Christian and He is calling you to put your TRUST in the Lord Jesus Christ, as your Saviour! Maybe you are a backslider and He is calling you to TURN from your sin, to REPENT and do the things you used to do as a committed Christian! Maybe He is calling you to be baptised and to go public with your Faith! Maybe, like Moses, He is calling you to GO and serve Him in a particular place! You're saying, "I've tried it before and it didn't work out." God is saying, "GO, YOU'RE THE ONE. I WILL BE WITH YOU!"
