**The next several pictures were taken at the Matthias Church. This church was founded by King Bela IV in about 1250**
This is just the door on one side. The place is so massive it was difficult to take adequate pictures.
From the street...but I had to cut off the steeple!
The rest of the above picture (Mike could splice this together...but I am impatient and want to get this page posted ASAP!).
Another view...
This is a statue in front of the church, across the street.
**An interesting note: We actually had to PAY to go inside this church! I think it was the first time I've ever had to pay to enter a church. But Peter and Magdi say that you have to pay for everything here...if you take a deep breath, you have to pay for it!
This is the first thing you see when you enter...again the pictures just don't do it justice...
A view from the inside. It was really dark inside, so some of the pictures are kind of grainy.
This was kind of a cool illusion...and the stained glass was stunning (this is of the Lamb)
The main altar
The only reason why I included this picture is because there is a funny story with it. I saw these little structures (which were very beautiful) and thought they were confessionals--so I struggled to get the correct lighting to get a good picture of this beautiful little thing. Well I got the shot--it wasn't great, but I got it. While we were walking out of the church I stopped by to look inside--Well, this beautiful little structure is actually a CHAIR CLOSET! Pretty funny.
One of the pillars inside. The gray-haired couple at the bottom of the screen are Americans. I heard them talking about money and how many forints converted to how many dollars and I turned around and said, "do you need help?" and they said, "No"--then the lady said (as though I didn't speak English) "What a nice girl".
Stained glass--I hope my "real" pictures of this come out...it was awesome!
