He married Isabelle Alice Player Dickson abt. 1927. Isabelle was born Marton, New Zealand March 4, 1905. Isabelle was the daughter of William John Dickson and Maude Preston Player. Isabelle died April 12, 1978 Wanganui, New Zealand, at 73 years of age. Her body was interred April 15, 1978 Wanganui, New Zealand, Aramoho Cemetery. At 23 years of age Isabelle became the mother of Mavis Eileen Sutherland Wanganui, New Zealand, Aug. 26, 1928.

At 26 years of age David became the father of Mavis Eileen Sutherland Wanganui, New Zealand, Aug. 26, 1928.

David Sutherland and Isabelle Alice Player Dickson had the following child:

2 i. Mavis Eileen² Sutherland⁽³¹²⁾ was born Wanganui, New Zealand Aug. 26, 1928. She married Charles Paul Anderson. Charles was born Opunake, Taranake, New Zealand May 21, 1925.
