He married Rebecca Isabelle "Becky" Hively Warren County, Illinois, Sept. 18, 1882. Rebecca was born Nov. 25, 1861. Rebecca was the daughter of Joseph Hively and Rachel Pool. Rebecca died Oct. 13, 1931 at 69 years of age.

James J. Lyons and Rebecca Isabelle "Becky" Hively had the following children:
