The Washington, Iowa Humane Society PAWS & More Animal Shelter
is a private shelter supported mostly by donations from
people and businesses who support proper animal welfare. Some communities in the county support the shelter with contractual agreements but each year the number of animals accepted exceeds the planned number. Thus the shelter always runs fund raisers and is looking for ways to bring in enough money to support the work that is done.
Local Humane Societies do not receive funds from the national Humane Society (HSUS).
Animal Woman maintains this web site to promote adoptions from local Humane Societies, private shelters, and Rescue organizations, and is
solely responsible for the content of on-site pages only. Personal

what does the shelter need to keep it's doors open?
The shelter needs donations of all kinds. Monetary donations are always gratefully accepted, and donations may be claimed as a charitable gift on your income taxes. Your dollars will be used wisely. There are not enough volunteers to cover the shelter on a daily basis, so the shelter has paid employees. Board members serve with no compensation.

Spay and neuter your companion animals. Leave breeding
to responsible, knowledgeable breeders. Every year millions of healthy dogs and cats are euthanized in America. This is no way to
treat our best friends, so when it's time to adopt a new family member,
go to a shelter and SAVE A LIFE.
