THE FREEMAN PAGE
JEREMIAH and MAHALY (PALMER) FREEMAN first show up in Stockholm Twp., St. Lawrence Co., NY. The next time we see them, it is in Prairie du Sac, Sauk Co., Wisconsin on the 1850 census.
He purchased 80 acres of land in Sumpter, Sauk County on 11/10/1855. An 1872 Supervisor's Road Warrent
shows that Jeremiah was one of the medium-large landowners in the area. He had 70 acres in 1872 worth $660 and
personal property worth $583. The amount of tax he had to pay on all this was $3.10.
One of Jeremiah and Mahaly's other children, MILO (b.12/28/1834), was a friend of WILLIAM C. FISH's and joined the army with him.
They were both in the civil war and served in Co. F of the 19th Michigan Infantry, which was recruited in Dowagiac, MI.
Milo served from 1862 to 1863.
Mahaly is buried in Pocket Cemetery, Sauk Co., WI. Jeremiah is buried in the Sylvan Cemetery, Richland Co., WI.
