Their Deep Roots & Tangled Branches

Our ancestor :The Orphan of William" John Breazier b-1699

1772-John BREASHEAR (BUSHER) of Dist. 96 South Carolina

In 1964 I sent to Spartenburg for the deed index for that area. On it we find all the persons listed that we are accustomed to thinking of as associates of William BRESHER b 1740, Fauquier Co.,VA The John Breshears Senior and John Breshears Junior who transfered land between them has never been fully thought through. Below is what I have worked out as their lineage. I do not accept the Theory that we descend from Robert Samuel Brashears. I have not proven that we do not descend from the Basil Brashears and son Middleton Brashears. All the Colateral names on my pedigree chart indicate it has to be a son of WILLIAM BEZER and ELIZABETH CLAYTON

as our progenators.

John Breazier "Orphan of William" has all the right collaterals to be the elusive forefather of Henry Alexander Breshears of Spartenburg SC; Lawrencburg TN & Polk Co., MO

Below is the Cronalog to JOHN BRASHIER " ORPHAN OF WILLIAM & ELIZABETH (CLAYTON) BREAZIER whose "heirs and collaterals" appeared in on the Tyger River in South Carolina as early as 1772 (old 96th Dist). It appears John BREASHEARS'S Removal from Spartanburg Co., South Carolina, took his descendants to WHITE & WARREN Co., TN (1814) ,via Christian and Livingston County Kentucky (1803-1820). They crossed Grainger Co., Tennessee by 1799 and had removed along with their collateral families to WHITE and WARREN Co., TN, by (1814) The Collaterals are those families of old Chester Co., Pennsylvania, viz: BEZER; COX; PYLE; BLACK; CLAYTON; HARDIN; COLLINS; GIBSON; HOGGS; WISDOMS; MARTIN; (others). These names are also those in Cedar and Benton County MISSOURI by 1837/40.

William and Elizabeth (Clayton) Brashier of Gunpowder Hundred, Baltimore CO MARYLAND

The wills in Maryland, give heirs, the four "ORPHANS" WILLIAM,, JOHN,, THOMAS, and JAMES MUMFORD BREAZIER. The administration, [William & Elizabeth (Clayton) Brashier], of the rights to their estates, were in the hands of their grandson Aquilla Brashier (son of Thomas & Sarah [Constance] Brashier by 1751. You can follow the grants of/to this old couple, beginning with the grants in Cumberland Co., NC (1751) issued to the "ORPHANS of WILLIAM"(1751) in Spartanburg Co., SC, issued to the "ORPHANS of WILLIAM (1783) " in Warren County Tennessee, to the "ORPHANS of WILLIAM (1814)" in Lawrenceburg Tennessee by 1817.

Was it John Brashier's wife Elizabeth (COOPER) Brashier who died in the house of John Breshears (3)of Lawrenceburg TN, having lived over 100 + years of age ? She had lived with Henry Alexander Breshears until his death in 1829.

The final land was claimed in MISSOURI by a WILLIAM Brashier (heir of "Orphan" William. Evidently he passed his land on to William Gowan Breshears. The Heirs (or cousins) of the "ORPHANS OF WILLIAM" then began arriving in Missouri about 1837.

There was a William Brasier on the lists for Maury Co., Tennessee in 1790, spelling his name BRAISURE. Along with him on that list is Thomas BRUSHERE (Heir of who? Possibley John BRUSHER or BRESHEAR "Orphan of William" of Spartenburg and JAMES TURNEY BRUSHERE heir of James MUMFORD BREAZIER, perhaps? He went variously by Bracher; Bradshaw; Bratcher; Brazier; and Brashier which is documented transmutes of the name.

!This connection to John BRASHEAR is based upon the State Census for Greenville SC-1780/90. John Sr. is living in the household No. 181 and appears to be the same John Brashear who removed to Christian Co., KY, with son Lawrence and the Blacks-as per Georgene Humphries and Margaret Mason's research.

... These men must be the children of JOHN BRASHER SR. Of Spartenburg Co., SC, who removed first to Christian Co., KY, then to White Co., Tennessee and Giles/Lawrence Co., Tennessee.

Note...If Lawrence BRASHER was married to Elizabeth BLACK then Henry, who Hans Black gave P/Att. for, from Christian County KY, back to Spartenburg SC, must be this Henry. This could be the HENRY BRASHEAR who received the large land grant on Big Barren River in KY., in right of John Brashier (b. 1735), Orphan of William? Beginning in 1803 there was land allocated to WILLIAM, JOHN, JAMES, ALEX BEZER and heirs of THOMAS, in Livingston/Christian Co., KY.
