These Are Some Of My Favorites
I found the following poem on an old advertisement. It has become one of our family favorites.
You Didn't Ask
I got up early one morning
And rushed right into the day!
I had so much to accomplish
That I didn't have time to pray.
Problems just tumbled around me
And heavier came each task.
"Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered;
He answered "You didn't ask."
I tried to come into God's presence.
I used all my keys in the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"My dear child, you didn't knock."
I wanted to see joy and beauty,
But the day toiled on, gray and bleak;
I wondered why God didn't show me.
He said, "But you didn't seek."
I woke up early this morning
And paused before entering the day,
I had so much to accomplish
That I had to take time to pray.
--Author Unknown--
The next 2 were provided by a friend of mine. The first one he wishes to have read at his funeral, the second was given to him when his son was killed in an auto accident. I do not know who wrote them, but if you do e-mail me and I will give them credit.
I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play
Tasks left undone must stay that away
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void;
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lenghten it now with undue grief;
Lift up your heart and share with me;
God wanted me now; He set me free.
Understanding
"I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine," God said.
"For you to love while he lives, and mourn for when he's dead."
"It may be six or seven years or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?"
"He'll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief."
"I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn."
"And there with you on earth, this child of Mine I lend
For the many souls he will touch with the lessons that I send."
"I've looked this wide world over in My search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd lifes way, I have selected you."
"Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain
Nor hate Me when I come to call to take him back again."
"I fancy that I heard you say, "Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy Thy child has brought, the risk of grief we'll run."
"We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay."
"But the angels called for him much sooner than we'd planned,
Dear Lord, forgive this grief of ours and help us understand."
