A BRIEF HISTORY:

The SPIVEY family is believed to have originated in Virginia in the 1600's. My line of SPIVEYs were in Northampton Co., NC by 1800 when Josiah was born along with assumed brothers Henry and Aaron. All three married GRANT women, possibly sisters.

My line of SPIVEYs remained in Northampton until 1887 when Joseph Madison SPIVEY and Lousia Margaret REESE came to the Gainesville, FL area where they remained until their deaths in 1912.

Joseph Madison SPIVEY served in the CSA in Co. A, 15th NC Volunteer Infantry. Both are buried in Windsor Methodist Church Cemetery, Windsor, FL near Gainesville.

Other branches of the NC Spiveys spread far and wide throughout the southeast. Below is a photo of Joseph Madison Spivey and Louisa Margaret Reese Spivey taken about 1890.
