A BRIEF HISTORY:

Lorenzo Dow PRICE was born about 1804 in Emanuel Co., GA. In 1823 he married Patience Bennett. They had 9 children that I know of. Click on Lorenzo to see the family group information. During the 1830's and 1840's, Lorenzo purchased and sold land in Randolph Co. He was a plantation owner and according to the 1850 slave schedules owned 25 slaves. He is listed in the 1830 Emanuel Co. census and in the 1840 and 1850 census of Randolph Co., GA. In the 1850 census, LD is erroneously listed as D.L. Price.

I believe that the father of Lorenzo Dow Price is William Price of Emanuel Co. In the April 24, 1830 issue of the Southern Recorder newspaper, "L.D. Price of Emanuel Co. applied for letters of administration on the estate of William Price, deceased."

Also found in the book GENEALOGICAL MATERIAL FROM LEGAL NOTICES IN EARLY GA NEWSPAPERS under Emanuel Co., GA: L.D. Price and Robert Higdon, Admrs. of William Price estate, advertise for sale in December, " a valuable set of mills containing 2000 acres; these mills at this time work two grist mills, one sawmill and one cotton gin, with water sufficient for all seasons; also 450 acres of land on Ogeechee River, and 200 acres at the head of 15-mile Creek"; three slaves and all the personal property of the deceased, Adv. dated Sept 18, 1830.

Lorenzo died in 1856 according to the family Bible of daughter, Susan Omie Crozier. In the Randolph Co. Courthouse, a document in the Court of Ordinary dated 12Feb 1858, states that:
Aaron Price and L.D., Jr. received $1061.96 as their share of money from estate of Lorenzo D. Price
(I believe LD, Jr. and Aaron inherited the plantation, or bought the others out)

the remaining are monies received to "make equal their share of negroes in said estate".
