Generation No. 2

2. John Robert2 CROFT (Ernest G.1) was born September 23, 1913 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada, and died August 07, 1969 in Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, WA. He married (1) Dorothy E.UNKNOWN. He married (2) Marvel Rae EATON April 17, 1934 in Everett, Snohomish Co., Washington, daughter of Ray EATON and Lenora ROSS. She was born May 08, 1916 in Everett, Snohomish Co., Washington, and died June 26, 1974 in Seattle, King Co., Washington. He married (3) Ella M. HANNING October 1942 in Everett, Snohomish Co., WA.
Notes for John Robert:
John Robert CROFT was last seen by his daughter on or about Nov 20,1962. He was taken to Veteran's Hospital on Sawtell in Santa Monica, CA. Sometime between the 20th and Thanksgiving he walked out of the hospital.

UPDATE: 08-18-1992: While on vacation in Missouri went to St. Louis to the Naval Medical Records center and found John's Naval Service Number when he took his physical for enlistment in service on 08-04-1942 he was married to an Ella M. and resided in Everett, WA and when he re-enlisted (CMDC USNR R NRCB 13-11) on 10-27-1947 he was married to Dorothy E. he lived in Seattle, Washington.(Date of honorable discharge 03-17-1958) records indicated large (3") scar on abdomen left side which would indicate the surgery for an partial lower intestine removal. Surgical scar 1 1/2" outer right wrist, scar 1/2" on top of head.
Also stated that he was an mechanic by trade and had hazel eyes,( like his daughter's) and that he indicated at time of hospitalization in 1954 that his daughter was 18 and that he had a 30 year old sister (probably Ann Schmidth) they were both in good health. His passing in 08-1969 goes along with his ill health in 1962. There was also a notation of full dentures, and a tattoo insigna (possible Navy?) on his right (inner) forearm. Vaccination scar left arm.
Lots of questions: . Is Ann still living? She would be about age 65. She and husband Frank took care of Arleen when she was about 9 years old and they lived on a turkey farm in Mukelito. Schmidth (German) Smith
UPDATE 07-11-1993: rcvd from Naval Records , San Deigo, CA, John's date of death althou no place was cited as to where he is buried.
UPDATE 08-01-1993: recvd from the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Deigo John's medical records and copy of his death certificate. This gave us his father's name as well as his mother's. . It also indicates that he is buried in the Holyrood Cemetary in Seattle, Washington, seems he went home to die. He died of Cirrhosis of the liver. And that Ann Schmidth his sister, was at the time of his death , still living. Listed as place of residence for her: Mrs. Frank Schmidt, Everett, Washington. UPDATE 08-09-1995: While in Washington for the "ROSS" Family reunion,
went to Holyrood Cemetary and located John's gravesite. Althou unmarked, it is located in Lot #7406 #7 in the back sharing the site with two other parties, state paid for burial.

Though he is the president-elect of a great country, Franklin Delano Roosevelt find time to acknowledge the sketch of him made by a young artist many miles away from his executive mansion at Albany, New York.
Miss Marvel EATON, 16, who lives with her mother, Mrs. Lenore McClure, at 3314 Lombard Avenue, sketched the smiling face of Governor Roosevelt from a newspaper and sent the likeness to New York.
The appreciative reply from Mr. Roosevelt bore a signature that was not a facismile: "Many thanks for the fine sketch which you so kindly sent me. I am very glad to have it. I also appreciate your letter of congratuations and good wishes".
Mindful of the season the nation's next president wished Miss Eaton a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" in closing his letter.

She married (2) Robert Glenn THOMPSON January 24, 1953 in Port Townsend, Jefferson Co., Washington. He was born September 03, 1926 in Hurdsfield, North Dakota. She married (3) Donald Wayne THOMSON September 30, 1962 in Santa Monica, California, son of Charles THOMSON and Barbara MCKAY. He was born January 10, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. Relocated Buzz after nearly thirty years. Reunited Robin with her father, when Robin and her husband Walter JOHNSON and their first child, Letha returned in August 1990 from Saudi Arabia.

Robert & Arleen were married in the Methodist parish by the Reverend Bertram Robbins, in the presence of Carl "Dutch" Roberts, Mrs. Gordon "Mickey" Patton, Marvel EATON Dean and James "Little Jimmy" Marlowe.
Arleen was eight months pregnant with Francis Payson "Buzz" Tyler 1st born child Robin Lorraine on the 18th of February 1953 at Fort Worden Hospital, Fort Worden Washington hereafter known as Port Townsend, Jefferson Co., Washington, she was delivered by Dr. Rodney J. Palmer, Captain R.A.F. who was on base at the time.
