The Fiona Invitational Croquet Match

A shot of Kathy and Roger participating in the Fiona Invitational Croquet Match held annually at our homestead. Normal croquet rules do not involve hurling the ball as Kathy is demonstrating here. However, normal croquet is not possible in the Fiona Invitational since the dogs enjoy participating in the competition as well. We have had to slightly modify the game to accommodate multi-species play.

A shot of Fiona and her younger brother Logan. Fiona has defined many of the rules of the Fiona Invitational, hence the name of the competition.

Click on the link below for a short video demonstrating basic croquet played the Fiona way. The video file is in Video for Windows (.AVI) format and is approximately 600 kbytes in size. Several minutes are required to download the video. It has taken as long as five minutes over our internet connection.

Caty demonstrating the race for a ball. This is one of the many tactics that have evolved as a result of Fiona's influence.

In this shot Kathy has developed some rules of her own - adapting to a missing mallet. Perhaps Fiona has absconded with it.

Kathy continues play without a mallet. Nothing can stop the action at the Fiona Invitational.

In this picture Steve demonstrates ball shielding. Fiona and Logan generally determine which ball each player uses unless successful ball shielding is employed.

This is a shot of Fiona making a grab for Roger's ball as Dan looks on.

This is a shot of Roger requesting return of his ball as Dan peers through his mallet in the background.

One of the competitors transports a ball out of play.

Always time for a group shot after a vigorous competition at the Fiona Invitational. In this shot Roger is rushing to get into the picture before the shutter trips.

Roger and Dan waiting for a ruling by Peggy, the rule master. Peggy usually wins the competition, by the way.

Looks like chicken - probably tastes like chicken.

After the competition one of the players enjoys a practical joke.
