CHAPMAN, William D.- Served the Confederacy in a capacity not yet fully understood. What is clear is that he received a Confederate Scrip Land Grant in lieu of Pension from the Great State of Texas. (Cited in "Texas Confederate Script, Grantees, C.S.A., by Thomas LLoyd Mille. Miller states: Chapman, Sarah B., Rusk County, 1246 (1280), dated 21 Nov 1881----Confederate Script, William D., 92933-Bx-51731.) This grant should have been for 1280 acres. The facts lie stored in the dusty vaults in Austin and this great great grandson just hasn't had time to obtain the trusty dusty file. Be patient. Oh, and it is reported that the Reverend William D. Chapman was a fire breathing circuit Baptist Preacher too..
