Barbara: I adopted my Akita, Henry, from ARSA almost 5 years ago. I volunteered for a short time while the kennels were in Ontario. That's where I met Henry. I'm not sure how old he is. I think he's about 9. He's a big boy. White, with one black ear and one lack & white spotted ear. He's got a big sable-colored patch on his back and sable-colored freckles when you rub his fur the opposite way. I think he came to the kennel for the first time in late 1993. Does any of this ring a bell for you? I'd really l ke to know anything else about him and his lineage that I can. About two years ago, he was diagnosed with VKH. He has since gone blind, but remains my favorite boy in the world. He's always been the sweet, loving, protective, funny and adorable boy I f ll in love with at the kennel. I know it's been a long time, but any information you might have would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am just getting started in the Akita breed. I have a one year old female and a 4 month old puppy female both of which I am going to show. I thought I might like to buy my male from you because your dogs are very beautiful, but then I read your section on becoming a breeder. How rude of you to assume that other people besides yourself can be interested in the betterment of the breed. I may be just beginning but everybody has to start somewhere. Just because I have not been doing this for years doesn t mean that I don't want to progress the breed. Experienced breeders are supposed to be there to encourage, not discourage new breeders, and help them learn. I am looking forward to showing my girls and establishing a very quality breeding program. An yes, I am doing it because I love the breed-not for money all though, as I have found out they are very valuable dogs.

Please Help Me! My baby is a palimino, and I am freafing out about his knees, he is seven months old and weighs 80 pounds, loves me and vice versa. The vets say his rear legs have stretched tendons? and have casted his rear legs which you know is not making him too happy. I can't seem to find a competant vet here in Miami who knows this breed of dog who can give me the advice and my baby the correct care he requires to be healthy most things I 've picked up from pages like yours, do these Akitas have a problem with the r ar legs that is normal? he seems to favor the left an shows some signs of tenderness when I touch it mostly he bites me.haha Will you please help I can't stand to see anyone suffer with pain and I don't think cutting a seven month old dog is an easy answer to his problem.
