David T. Burton was born on April 9, 1816 in South Carolina, probably in or near Spartenburg. In 1849 or early 1850 he married Cassandra E. (Moore?) born circa 1832 as they were listed together in the 1850 South Carolina census and the first of their six known children was born about 1851. There are many indications that Cassie's maiden name was Moore, but no proof. In the 1860 census a Rebecca Moore, age 70, was living with them. She appears to be a strong probability for Cassie's grandmother. Also very close to them, in Spartenburg in the 1850 census, lived a David W. Moore age 45 who was a merchant and tanner. With him was his wife Mary C., age 30 and their four children. They seem excellent prospects for Cassie's mother and father.
Also living with the Moores were five "Boarders" including a W. C. Burton (age 30) a clerk and James M. Burton (age 27) a harness maker. The other three boarders were a clerk, a harness maker and a saddler. David T. was also listed as a clerk and an agent in 1850. However in the 1860 census, after the elder Mrs Moore had moved in, he was listed as a merchant. In December of 1863 David was included as a member of the "Soldiers' board of Relief". The board had distributed over $28,000 beside food and clothing to families of Confederate soldiers who were gone for the Civil War. David and his brother (cousin?) enlisted in the Confederate Army. David and his family migrated to Whitney, Texas sometime after 1865, but before 1870. David, Cassie and four of the children, Margaret, Samual, Nancy and Charlie were listed in the 1870 Texas Census. At that time and in the 1880 census David was listed as a merchant. Before that he was the postmaster for Towash, a small town a few miles from Whitney. In addition Cassie was shown as a hotel keeper in 1880. I strongly believe they came to Texas shortly after the Civil War, as the post war period was very hard on former white citizens and soldiers of the Confederate States of America. David died August 6, 1888 at Whitney and is buried there in the Bethleham cemetry.
S. A. Burton
S.A. (Full name unknown) was born circa 1851 in Spartenburg, S.C..Margaret Burton
Margaret was born circa 1854 in Spartenberg, S.C..Augustus Perry Burton
Augustus was born in Spartenberg on March 31 1856 and died as an infant on September 6, 1856 at the age of five months and six days.Samual Edwin Burton
Samual was born in Spartenberg, S. C. on May 22, 1858. He came to Texas with his family some time between 1865 and 1870. On January 14, 1892 he married Mary Bell Canada in Archer City Texas and they had 6 children, Stella Mae, Cassie, Fred Jack, Vera Edna, Charles Alvin, and Samual Ray. Mary Bell's family also migrated to Texas, but from Kentucky. They also came after the Civil War, but not until after 1872. In 1910 the Burtons were living in Whitney with five children and his mother Cassie. Samual worked as a farmer and a stage driver in Archer City, helping with the hotel and his mother's property in Whitney and as a cowboy and dray driver in Roaring Springs. He died in January of 1928, from a brain hemmorage, while working as a dray driver in Roaring Springs, Texas. He and Mary Bell are both buried in the Cementry at Roaring Springs.
She married Samual Edwin Burton, whose family had also migrated to Texas from Spartenberg, S. C., some time between 1865 and 1870. Mary and Sam were married in Archer City Texas* on May 22, 1858. They had 6 children, Stella Mae, Cassie, Fred Jack, Vera Edna, Charles Alvin, and Samual Ray. Mary Bell died December 23, 1935.

Even Wilhelmine along with her father Heinrich, and brothers Fredrick and Johann had their occupation listed as carpenters. The records also stated that they had came from the village of Obermoellrich in Germany and their destination was Wisconsin.
Eight years later, the 1860 United States census of Milwaukee, Wisconsin shows Wilhelm aged 54, with Heinrich aged 19 and Tobias aged 17 still living at home. However, also living with him in 1860, was a wife, Martha aged 42, Lucinda aged 18 and Edmond aged 11. Wilhelm, Heinrich and Tobias are listed as farmers and Lucinda is listed as a domestic and Edmond attending school.
All available evidence points to Martha as Wilhelm's second wife and Lucinda and Edmond as stepchildren. They were not on the ship with Wilhelm and his children. Martha, Lucinda, and Edmond are obliviously English names. Martha would have only been 12 years old when Wilhelmine was born and Fredrick stated in the 1970 U.S. census that his mother was born in Hamburg, Prussia (Germany).
The Wisconsin state census for 1955 shows 9 people in the DAUT household and states that 7 of them foreign born. Therefore we must assume that Wilhelm was a widower and Martha was a widow. The indication is very strong that they were married between 1853 and 1855 in the United States and that Lucinda and Edmond (Both born before 1852) were her children from another marriage. Lucinda was 10 and Edmond was 2 when Wilhelm arrived in the United States so they would almost have to be the 2 members of the household (1855 census) who were born in the U.S..
Fredrick Christian Daut
Fredrick immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 along with his father, sister and three brothers in 1852. Fredrick is listed in the 1870 census of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is listed with his wife Elisebeth and daughters 8 year old Louisa and 2 year old Elenor . Fredrick is listed as 31 years old and Elizabeth as 26. So we must assume he was about 22 and she was about 17 when they married. Both girls were born in Wisconsin. Fredrick was a saloon keeper at the time the census was taken on June 15, 1870.By the 1880 United States Census they were living in Montague in Muskegon County where Fredrick was a carpenter. By then two sons had been added to the family, Henry Albert age 9, born in Wisconsin on February 6, 1872, and Arthur J. who was born circa 1875 in Michigan. Elenor was 17, still living at home and working. The three younger children were in school.
Fredrick and his family had moved to Michigan in 1872 (In the 1884 Michigan state census the family said they had lived in Michigan 12 years). On the tenth day of May 1882 Fredrick purchased the southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of section twenty four in the township of White River in Muskegon county for one hundred and fifty dollars. For some reason, on May seventh 1884 he mortgaged the property. On the twenty fourth of September 1887 the mortgage was foreclosed and the property was sold at public auction.
Except for one son, Henry Albert who moved to Texas, the fate of the family is still unknown. The foreclosure was the last recorded information found about the entire family except for Henry. Henry left home after a bitter disagreement with his father and never returned. It may well be that he kept in touch with his mother though, as he listed her as the beneficiary of a $500.00 insurance policy he bought in 1901 when he joined the "Woodsmen Of The World" in Arp Texas.
Louisa Daut
Louisa was born circa 1863 in Wisconsin. Probably in Milwaukee where her parents were living in 1870. In the 1880 census she was still living at home with her parents and was a seamstress by occupation.Elinor Daut
Elinor was born circa 1869 in Wisconsin. Also, probably in Milwaukee where her parents were living in 1870. In 1880 she was listed as being at home, going to school.Henry Albert Daut
Henry was born on the February 6, 1872 in the state of Wisconsin.
The only thing he ever told about his earlier life was that he and his father had a serious argument that caused him to leave home forever and never (as far as known) try to contact his family.
Henry's next known residence was in Greenville Texas around 1900. By 1901 he had moved to Arp Texas where he joined the "Woodsmen of The World", on July 13, 1901 and named his mother as beneficiary on his life insurance policy. Henry met May Belle Goodwin in Magnolia, Texas just before she moved to Hill County. After a courtship by mail, they were married on Oct 4, 1903. They had one son, Wheeler Neil, born Sept. 13, 1906
Henry continued working as a carpenter and contractor in Montgomery, Texas and the surrounding area until his advancing age made it difficult for him to do the heavy labor. From then, until he died, he worked in Mrs Winslow's used furniture and antique store restoring and repairing furniture.
Henry died February 1, 1948 and is buried in Montgomery, Texas.

Arthur was born circa 1876 in Michigan, probably in Montage, Muskegon county. He was the fourth child and the second son of Fredrick and Elizabeth.

He married Ida Lenora Magee on August 19, 1900 in Rains County Texas. Then they moved to the community of Ginger where the other four children, Burin, William, Fanny and Marzee were born. William was a farmer and a typical example of the farmer of the time who rented his farm. They lived at Winsboro from at least 1901 until 1910 where four of the eight children, Johnny, Lonnie, Ethel and Mittierene were born. In 1910 they moved to the little community of Ginger where the other four children, Burin, William, Fanny and Marzee were born.
Although nothing is really known first hand about William's and Henry's family background, some information was found on an old Kansas City Life Insurance Co policy application filled out by Henry on November 10, 1917. Their father was born circa 1800 and died in 1868. Their mother was born circa 1831 and died in 1876. They had one brother who died as an infant and one born cira 1855, who died in 1907. They had three sisters. One born circa 1844 and died at the age of 45 in 1889.
The other 2 sisters visited him sometime between 1916 and 1920. They were thought to live in Louisiana at the time. One of the visiting sister's name was Mary Loper and she had daughters Mary and Minnie.
