Interesting site. I am the author of the "Devoe-deVaux Family History 1691-1991" (published 1999)and could offer corrections/clarification on the subject of the Acadian DeVaux family including the origin and spelling of the name (it first appears in Acadia as "DeVaux" not "Deveau" (a late-day misspelling in the registers)and have written a most comprehensive study of the early days of the family at Beaubassin. In the article on the history of the family: The suggested origin of the family in France is in error; there is no evidence of what is said and it did not come from Arsenault's work (his work has flaws, but that is not one of them!) Pleased to hear from anyone with further interest in the subject. Cordially, John

This is a very impressive web site. Even more astonding is your Genealogical project. You have been very busy. I am doing research on behalf of my wife, the former Marie Irma Lefort. Also, I am doing it for the benefit of her family and my three children. My research starts with Francoir Marie Lefort. I am just beginning, but I have gathered bits and pieces of info over the past few years. Irma and I visited St. Malo just last year. I did not think we found very much on Francois until I learned just a few onths ago that he may have been a deserter from the French Army in St. Piere. We did find a name in the records in St. Malo in reference to Sgt. F.M.Lefort. I need to go back and find that data. Thank you for the additional information which I copied from your site. It will help a lot in the construction of my project. Best Regards, Richard and Irma McGuinness Auburn, Maine, USA P.S. We are planning our retirement in Cheticamp within the next few years.

Great site! I'm at a dead end. I need info on Anne Coste, daughter of Benoni Coste and Perpetue Poirier. I know she married George Blachford in 1873 but I need to know about a daughter born before that, Christine Duval, my great grandmother. Does anyone know of Duvals in Cheticamp that may have raised her as their own daughter?

Hello Andree, I was referred to your site by Kathy and Jim Legere (Cheyenne, Wyoming), as an excellent DEVEAU reference site and it most certainly is! Yesterday I carefully studied your Augustin and Joseph DEVEAU lineage, particularly Joseph Deveau's lin . I'm searching for linkage between our root ancestor, "Joseph Jesse DEVARY" (also known as "Jacques"). Through recent Acadian research I have a strong hunch that he may have derived from the DEVEAU Acadian lineage. (We KNOW we are of French lineage and num rous old Devary ancestors had names such as "Napoleon Bonaparte Devary, Marcus DeLafayette Devary, etc." My questions for you are these: 1. Do you have death records on the second child of Joseph Deveau, who's name is shown as "Louis-Joseph dit Joseph DEVEAU, married to Anne-Euphrosane dite Theotista GAUDET? There appear to be 11 children born of this marriage. 2. I need to rule this Joseph DEVEAU individual OUT (or "in") as being the same individual as my Joseph Jesse DEVARY. We KNOW DEVARY married Mary DUMFORD in 1801 in KY and died in 1846 in KY. Researchers also indicate he may have come to New Orelans be ween 1795-1800, via Canary Islands and Havana. If you can confirm that Joseph DEVEAU remained in the Nova Scotia area during the 1790's and/or until his passing, - then he's NOT our link and I can look elsewhere. 3. The best way to discount this possible linkage is to find documentation as to where your Joseph DEVEAU lived in his senior years, and where he died. 4. Locating this DEVARY's siblings and ancestors is the ongoing mystery of the entire Devary lineage. 5. This particular Joseph DEVEAU and my Joseph DEVARY would have been born on/about the same time. My Joseph was a grown man, age 40+, traveling alone, when he arrived in New Orleans. It strikes me that he's likely to have had a previous family, prior t his arrival in America. I apologize for using your "Guest Book" to communicate, but I've been unable to again fully load your website to obtain your direct email. My email (in case it doesn't post) is: toppin@aol.com. I'd appreciate any guidance you might provide about locati g our Devary ancestor's origins. Thank you, Elaine DEVARY Willman, Toppenish, WA USA
