Christmas...what does that mean to you?

This time of year always brings back some special
memories for me. I would like to share a couple
of Christmas stories or traditions in my family.

Candy Bar and a Flashlight

A very special tradition started as a result
of a terrible accident. As a little girl of 3 years old
I stood in the bathroom watching my daddy shave.
I had on a little flannel gown and the warm air from the heater
swept it in closer to the fire from the gas heater.
As quick as a flash, my gown was on fire and my daddy
tore off my gown with his bare hands.
I was burned badly on my legs and stomach
and my daddy burned his hands.
Regardless, he rushed me to the hospital.
I was treated and bandages placed and
had to remain in bed for weeks.
Now, you must realize this seemed an eternity to a 3 year old.
To help make the time go by, my grandpa
brought me a flashlight to play with on the walls and ceiling.
He of course, brought me a hersey bar.
Many hours were passed playing with that flashlight.
It wasn't long before Christmas came
around and PawPaw thought it would be a neat
Christmas extra to give the grandkids a flashlight and candy bar.

The years have passed and even when Pawpaw
had great-grandchildren, he continued to give each of them
a flashlight and candy bar every Christmas.
We all grew to expect him to do that
and always brought a smile even to the adult grandchildren.

My grandfather is gone now from this earthly home but every Christmas, we are reminded of his love and goodness by giving our grandkids a flashlight and candy bar.

Isn't Christmas really about making memories and sharing love?
Money cannot buy either, it comes from the heart!
