Sometime in the latter part of the 19th cemtury, about 1885, it was dedided re-locate the little church known then as Lake Chapel Church, from the old location near Deceiper Lake.
In those days, it seems, they faced many problems as today, that is the need for ready cash and modes of transportation, At that time Joe Hart, who owned and lived on a farm just below Open Banks on Ouachita River, came forward with cash and some lumber and furnished quite a major part of the transportation in moving the building from the old location to what is now known as Hart's Chapel, located two and one-half miles east of Curtis, and erecting and enlarging the building on the new site. It was thought by the elders and members of the newly located church that something should be done to show appreciation to the one that had played a major role in the moving and erection of the building. It was decided to change the name of the new church to that of "Hart's Chapel Church".
The church is still standing today and holds many, many pleasant memories to those people who have known the grand old church down across the years of it's existence.
The cemetery, located north and east of the church was probably established at about the same time. The cemetery has been added to at least three times during the lives of many of those still living. At one time the Hart's Chapel School building was located in the east end of the present cemetery.
