you see gliding like sailing ships in the breed ring.
The standard says they are between 9 and 10 1/2 inches
and weigh between 9 and 16 pounds.
It is thought that these sturdy little dogs originated
as temple dogs in the mountains of Tibet. It was, however,
the eunichs in the imperial palaces of China that
perfected the breed, perhaps it is this elevated
position that gives them their personalities.
For many years the breeders in America considered
them a lap dog. It is only recently that they have
been recognized in the obedience and agility rings
as wonderful clowns and great atheletes.
I am owned by four of these wonderful creatures.

This is CH, U-AGI, U-CDX Samantha CDX,OA,CGC
She was my first experience with a Shih Tzu
in the obedience and agility ring. She was
the first Shih Tzu to earn an AKC agility title
She received her NA on April 29, 1995 and her OA
on November 5, 1995.
Sammi is a wonderful companion, she is always
ready to participate in anything. If you want
to nap she'll snooze beside you, if you wish to
go for a walk she'll ramble with you, if you want
to do an agility course she'll run with you, if
there is a cat or squirrel in the yard she will
protect you from it.

He is Samantha's son and my first breed
ring dog. He also is working on his CD
and his OA.
This also is Robin doing agility. Robin's one
big problem is that he learned in the breed ring to
go up and flirt with the judge. I'm having a hard
time convincing him NOT to visit with the judge in
agility and obedience.
Warren's Royal Shih Tzu Toy House in Indianapolis,
Indiana. She is a real doll baby. She is 18 months
old and will be ready to do agility and obedience next
Spring. She will make a beautiful match for my Robin.
