Gabriel Harrell Rascoe is the son of Jesse Rascoe, b. abt. 1790 in Bertie County, North Carolina. Jesse moved with his father, Willian Rasco, after the Revolutionary War to Stewart County, Tennessee.

William Rasco served in the Revolutionary War as a Captain. He and his family were some of the first settelers in Tennessee.

An excellent book on William Rasco and his descendents has been published by William Earl Rasco. The book is titled The Rasco Family Tree-Roots and Branches. 1. Gabriel Harrell3 Rascoe (Jesse2 Rasco, William1) was born October 20, 1827 in Selma, Dallas Co, Alabama, and died October 03, 1907 in Navarro Co, Tx. He married Frances P. Halbert March 22, 1849 in Rusk, Cherokee Co, Tx (Source: Cherokee Co, Tx Records, Marriages, p 67, Book A.), daughter of Stephen Halbert and Sarah.

Gabriel Harrell Rascoe served in the Mexican War, 1846-1848, as indicated in "Texas Veterans in the Mexican War-Muster Rolls of Texas Military Units" complied by Charles D. Spurlin and held in The Texas State Archives. Pension Application #C20589 also filed.

He enlisted in Company A, Second Texas Calvary during the Civil War at Rusk, Cherokee Co, Tx. He received a Confederate Pension for this service as recorded in the Texas Library & Archives Commission, File #5078.

"Gabriel Rascoe served as a private in Company A, 2nd Regiment, Texas Cavalry (2nd Mounted Rifles). 2nd Cavalry Regiment, about 1,200 strong, was organized in May, 1861, under the designation of the 2nd Texas Mounted Rifles. It was reorganized in April, 1862, as the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. The men were recruited in San Antonio, Houston, Marshall, and Beeville, and the counties of Anderson, Houston, Nacogdoches, and Cherokee. Serving in the Trans-Mississippi Department, it was active in various conflicts in the New Mexico Territory and Louisiana, then saw action in the defense of Galveston. In November, 1862, the unit totalled 752 effectives, had 19 officers and 167 men in July, 1864, and about 150 present in April, 1865. Although it was included in the surrender on June 2, it had previously disbanded. The field officers were Colonels John S. Ford and Charles L. Pyron; Lieutenant Colonels John R. Baylor and James Walker; and Majors John Donelson, Matthew Nolan, William A. Spencer, and Edward Waller, Jr."

Frances P. Halbert was part of a group who, with her brother John H. Halbert, formed the Rocky Springs Baptist Church of Christ in Cherokee County on April 8, 1848. The area is today known as Dialville and celebrated its 150th anniversay in June of 1998.

15 ii. William Thomas Rascoe, born August 28, 1897 in Corsicana, Navarro Co, Texas; died April 19, 1979 in Corsicana, Navarro Co, Texas. He married Clara Nelson.

William Thomas Rascoe retired as an oil well pumper. He worked many years for Stekoll Oil Company and Houston Oil Company, was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Buried Resthaven Memorial Park.

16 iii. Lora E Rascoe, born June 19, 1900 in Navarro County, Tx; died February 20, 1967 in McAllen, Tx. She married Archie E Gaddy.

17 iv. Eula Rascoe, born April 28, 1906 in Navarro Co, Tx; died August 27, 1989 in Corsicana, Navarro Co, Tx. She married Noah Russell Wright April 26, 1924 in Corsicana, Navarro Co, Tx.

18 v. Joshua P Rascoe, Jr born July 06, 1915; died October 1, 1999. Attended Corsicana Public Schools. Entered service Oct 17, 1942, at Dallas. Assigned to Army, 96th Division. Served overseas from July, 1944, to June, 1945, in Leyte, Philippine Islands, and Okinawa. Received American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon 2 Battle Stars, 2 Arrowheads, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation, Ribbon and Victory Medal. Was discharged August 23, 1945. .

19 vi. Romia Lee Rascoe, born November 02, 1918 in Navarro County, Tx; Attended Corsicana Public Schools. Entered service June 21, 1944, Assigned to Army 20th Armored Divsion. Trained at Camp Wolters and Ft. McClellan. Served overseas from Dec., 1944, to Mar., 1945, in France and Germany. Awarded E.T.O.I. Battle Star; Combat Badge; Good Conduct; Presidential Citation; Purple Heart. Paid the Supreme Sacrifice March 31, 1945, while under going treatment for wounds received the day before in action. . He married Jimmie Lou Bush in Corsicana, Navarro Co, Tx.
