CARRILLO FAMILY

For every saga, every tale, every family, there is a beginning. Unfortunately, due to our very limited source of information, we can only begin with brothers and sisters 1) ANGELA, 2) Lolo JOAQUIN, 3) HIPOLITO, 4) ANICIA, and 5)TIKIO, from BINAN, LAGUNA.
ANGELA used to own the biggest bakery in Tondo, the PANADERIA DE SAN JUAN ANTONIO.
ANICIA married an ABACON from CALAMBA, LAGUNA, while TIKIO married a ZAVALLA from STA. ROSA, LAGUNA.
Lolo JOAQUIN's first marriage was to a SALANDANAN. They had two (2) children, namely, FILOMENA (MENAY), born July 5, 1886 and LEANDRO (ANDOY), born February 27, 1888.
Lolo JOAQUIN became a widower after his wife's (SALANDANAN) death. He remarried SEVERINA TENSUAN (Lola BINAY), a middled aged single lady from PATEROS, RIZAL and who belonged to an affluent family. It is said that Lola BINAY together with Lola ANGELA helped finance LEANDRO's medical studies. They bore no children probably because of their advanced age.
After Lolo JOAQUIN's mariage to his second wife, SEVERINA TENSUAN, he together with FILOMENA and LEANDRO, relocated in Pateros, Rizal.
It is said that Lolo JOAQUIN put up a modest soft drinks factory in the town of Pateros. During those days, cork and not tin cap was used to cover the bottles of soft drinks. It was FILOMENA who helped Lolo JOAQUIN in this business by rationing soft drinks to customers in the town of Pateros. As a result, she became acquainted with a considerable number of residents most of whom requested her to act as sponsors for their child's baptism.
The Tensuans were originally from Pateros. A brother of Lola BINAY, Rufino Tensuan, was a Catholic Priest. Lola Binay and her cousin, mother of Tia Benigna and Tita Enchang de Borja, accompanied Father Rufino wherever he was assigned, especially in Pateros itself where he was once the Parish Priest. Another brother of Lola BINAY, Vicente married a lady from Muntinlupa. Thus the Tensuans from Muntinlupa, prominent among whom are Vicente's grandson, retired Justice Ricardo Tensuan of the Court of Appeals and the latter's nephew, Salvador Tensuan, now RTC Judge of Makati.
Lola BINAY had nieces among whom were Tia Benigna de Borja Cataquiz and Tia Enchang de Borja Chavez. The latter had another younger sister, Tia Sergia de Borja who married a Camba from Panaon and whose children are now residing in Chicago. One of them is Lita Camba who is married to Domeng Ciruelas. Pedring, Raul, Arty, and Atty. Paul Cataquiz (a resident of LA), among others, are the children of Tia Benigna while Atty. Dorothy Chavez Cruz is the only child of Tia Enchang. It appears that while the Carrillos are related to them only by affinity, they have become more than blood relatives by constant and close association.
When Dr. LEANDRO became a doctor of medicine, he was invited by his close friends Drs. LORENZO ABADILLA and JUAN ROSALES, to practice in Lucena, Tayabas (Quezon). At one time, he worked as a railroad physician in Lucena. Trains then ran only as far as Lucena. Dr. LEANDRO subsequently became a Municipal Health Officer of Padre Burgos and Unisan where he met and became attracted to a 16 year old girl CARMEN MAXINO. The latter was then a student of Centro Escolar in Manila. The marriage between Dr. LEANDRO and CARMEN was sort of pre-arranged between Don Vicente Tolentino, the adoptive father of CARMEN and Dr. LEANDRO. There was, however, a formal "pamanhikan" during which Lolo Joaquin and Lola Binay requested one JULIO HERRERA of Pitogo, Tayabas, at that time the GOBERNADOR of Tayabas Province, to accompany them in formally asking for CARMEN MAXINO's hand in marriage. It appears that JULIO HERRERA is a first cousin of Lola BINAY. Dr. LEANDRO and CARMEN were married in Unisan and it is said that Lolo JOAQUIN, Lola BINAY, and Tia BIRA (ELVIRA), also a niece of Lola BINAY, and Tia ENCHANG among others attended the wedding, coming all the way from Pateros and riding a boat from Lucena to Unisan, which at that time was accessible, only by boat. When Dr. LEANDRO and CARMEN were already married, they relocated and put up a Botica in Lucena where one PATROCINIO DE LEON, a sister-in-law of Dr. Juan Rosales, became their pharmacist. They, however, eventually settled in Unisan. Being an only sister, FILOMENA stayed with her only brother, Dr. LEANDRO in Unisan and in Lucena. It was in Unisan where she met RAMON VERA CRUZ. They were married in Pateros where Lolo JOAQUIN was then residing, and permanently settled in Panaon. The Vera Cruz family would be attending the Pateros town fiesta every February of the year, until FILOMENA's death in June 1939.
HIPOLITO's (brother of Lolo Joaquin), first marriage was to a girl from Calumpit, Bulacan. They begot two children, namely 1) PEDRO and 2)SALUD. Among PEDRO's children were FEMIA, widow of Berting Maxino, Jose, who used to be connected with Mercedes Benz, and TITA CARRILLO.
HIPOLITO's second wife gave him five children, namely, 1) CHARING, 2)ANGELO, 3)CONCORDIA, 4)JESUS, and 5)FELINA.
ANGELO is the dentist whom we fondly call Tio ANGELO. He is now the only surviving child of Hipolito. He is now 96 years old and his wife, NICANORA, from SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, BULACAN, now 86, celebrated her birthday on January 10, 1999 at their residence in 13 NANGKA ST., POTRERO, MALABON, MM.
ANGELO and NICADORA have three children, namely, 1)VIVENCIO (+), 2)NORMA, and 3)TERESITA.
As stated earlier, Lolo JOAQUIN's first mariage was to a Salandanan. It appears that this Salandanan had a brother, the father of NICOLASA (Tia COLANCHING or Maestrang COLANCHING) and AMADA, mother of the late REMEDIOS SUAREZ and Luz Etorma Protacio, among others, and grandmother of Cong. DANILO SUAREZ.
NICOLASA married Tio PEPE SANTAYANA and their only child is Dr. LUISITO who married the late GURING ZAVALLA of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
AMADA, on the other hand, married Gerardo (Tio HADOY) Etorma, the Sanidad of Dr. LEANDRO.
The father of NICOLASA and AMADA, became a widower and married a second wife, Lola TEYANG. Out of this wedlock were born Tia SISANG BOLANOS and FELIPA(Tia IPANG) who married Tio Pedro Ricafranca, a railroad employee in Panaon at that time. Peping, Carding (+), and Araceli Ricafranca are the three children of Tia Ipang and Tio Pedro.
From the above, it can be seen that FILOMENA and Dr. LEANDRO, on one hand, and NICOLASA, AMADA, FELIPA, and SISANG, on the other, are FIRST COUSINS.
It is said that it was Dr. LEANDRO who invited Tia Colaching and Tia AMADA to stay in Unisan. On the other hand, it was FILOMENA who invited Tia Benigna and Tia Ipang to Panaon.
Dr. LEANDRO, who died of hypertension in 1945, and CARMEN, who passed away in June 1986, had six (6) children, namely 1)PRISCILA, 2)FIDELINA (+), 3)JESUS (+), 4)JOAQUIN (+), 5)ANGELA, and 6)MARINA.
Dra. PRISCILA(Tita LILA), born at PGH, Manila on January 16, 1915, still single and is celebrating her 84th birthday this January 16.
FIDELINA (FEDING) died single in 1943 at the age of 23.
Col. JESUS, who died on September 2, 1995, married ESTELA ISAAC ELEAZAR, now a ballroom dancing aficionada. His last post was as the Chief Military Attache of the Philippines to Indonesia. He retired in 1971 with the rank of Brigadier General. They have ten children, namely:
Dr. LEANDRO, II (LENNY) married to SONIA LAO. They have four (4) children, namely, JOANNE (3rd Year Medical Student), LEANDRO, III (IAN) JESUS (graduating in Med. Tech. this year), KRISTOFFER ALLEN (taking up Hotel and Management in La Salle), and LEAN (a student of St. Scholastica). LENNY is an Anaesthesiologist at St. Claire's Hospital in Makati.
GREGORIO (GEORGE) married to ELENA LIGON. They have two children: GIRARD (GP) who graduated in Business Management and GILBERT (GIBOT) who is still in college. GEORGE has a tire supply business in Batangas while ELENA has her own bottled water company in Cavite.
TERESITA (TESS) is now a Canadian Citizen. She finished her Masters Degree in Nutrition at New York University. Tess works for the Nelson and Area Health Council as a Clinical Dietitian with the Kootenay Lake Regional Hospital and lives in Nelson, B.C. Canada. She is still single.
MARIA CORAZON died during infancy.
ROBERTO (BOB; BOBBY) married to JOCELYN (JO) SAENZ and is a resident of Milpitas California where he works as an Engineer. JO is in Real Estate and a Notary Public of California. They have one daughter named AMANDA who is in grade school.
MARIANNE (ME-AN) married to EDGARDO RAYMUNDO. She is now an Assistant Vice President for Finance at PAL. They have three children, namely, JOSEPH (JR), RAYMOND (MEMON), and PAULINE.
MARIO is the Chief Purchasing Officer of Cambridge. He is with ANNE PLOMANTES and her 3 children. He has a daughter named KATRINA.
VICTORIO (VIC) is still single. He is also with Cambridge as a driver mechanic.
RAMON (CHITO) is a Mechanical Engineer from UP. He is the Technical Manager of NP & Company, a Japanese company. He has two children with SALLY ALCIDO named REA LORDA (REA) now in High School and RAFAEL CARLO (RC) who is in grade 1 at Kids Montessori.
OSCAR who is now a Canadian citizen married to HELEN BELDENIZA. They have one daughter named KAREN. He is in transportation (taxi) and delivery service in Yellow Knife, N.W.T. in Canada.
JOAQUIN, who for many years was the Mayor of Unisan and who died in 1991, was first married to CORAZON CAMPOSANO of Lucena. They had one child, EDGAR, who married ELEANOR PECACHE. EDGAR recently passed away in Baguio City.
JOAQUIN's second wife is PACITA VILLAVICENCIO. They have nine (9) children namely: LOURDES (LEDY), JENNY, JC, JIMMY, CELIA, JOJO(+), BERNADETTE, JOHN-JOHN, and Dra. CONNIE, now a resident physician in Pennsylvania, USA and a graduate of UP.
ANGELA, born January 23, 1934 has eight (8) children with her late husband, AURELIO CALDERON, namely:
VERONICA (MARIE), has two kids MARTIN and MYLENE. She now resides in Alameda, CA.
AURELIO, JR. (BUSTY) married to GIRLIE GARCIA. They recently celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary. They have two kids, MARIMILLE (CAMILLE) who is now 17, and PATRICK who is a blackbelt in Karate. They live in Pomona, CA.
JANE married to GIL BUENAVENTURA, EVP of BPI (main). They have 6 kids: ERIKA, FRANCIS, JEANINE, ANGELO, GIL JR., and CARLO. They live in Ayala, Alabang.
Dra. MINA married to Dr. LITO ROXAS with whom she had four children namely ANTON, MARITONI, JULIAN, and RICHARD. They live in Ayala, Alabang.
ISA married to Dr. ANTONIO ESPINOSA FELICIANO, JR., M.D. They have one child ANGELA who's now 10 and studying at St. Scholastica. They live in Asiaworld, Paranaque.
FRANCISCO, (COOKIE) is living with IFUR BERNARDO in Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte with their 3 kids, KARA, KRISTA, and AU.
CHINGAY married to CHITO BARREIRO, President of RX 93.1 Monster Radio where Chingay works too. They have 3 kids, TOCH, CELINE, and CARLO. They live in Merville Subdivision, Paranaque.
CAMIE died at the age of seven.
MARINA, born May 29, 1937, a registered nurse and a graduate of San Juan De Dios Hospital, and now wife of Dr. NARDING SANTAYANA, her childhood sweetheart, has seven (7) children by her first husband, HERMENIGILDO BRIONES, namely:
CARMEN MA. LUISA (CARLA), born on September 18, 1960 is married to MICHAEL CARRILLO CUSTODIO of Cavite City. Relationship between her and Michael has not yet been ascertained. They have one son MICHAEL JOHN born April 7, 1980. They are now residents of Woodbridge where CARLA is a nurse at Potomal Hospital.
MANUEL JESUS (MANNY) came April 30, 1962 and is married to TERESA INGERSON a Vietnamese. They have now two children DEANNA JANE born September 27, 1982 and JORDAN born May 18, 1988. MANNY is Food Production Manager at Marriots Health Care Division. They are also residents of Northern Va.
RAMON ALFONSO (MON) born August 3, 1966 a Phlebotomist married Dr. LEA EUTROPIA LAREDO of Lucena City. They are both working in a hospital at So. Plymouth, N.Y.
GIL JOSE (JAY) born October 18, 1967 married KATHERINE BORREL a Filipino and have produced two offsprings, BIANCA June 9, 1997 and DEREK CHRISTOPHER June 18, 1998. JAY is a supervisor of the mail division of a law firm in Washington D.C. and is residing in M.D.
FATIMA ALBERTO born November 15, 1968 married MARSHALL MILLER, American, out of which union SEAN PATRICK was born November 28, 1995. FATIMA is now working with an import/export company as a broker. They are based in Centreville, Va.
JOSEPH MATTHEW (MATT) was born September 21, 1971 and is living in Chicago with MARGARITA ELLA also of Lucena City. He is working at a suburban hospital in Chicago as an emergency room technician.
PATRICIA is the youngest who came August 25, 1973. She is still single and graduating in May from Marymount University School of Nursing.
Except for MATT, all of them have taken American citizenship.
FILOMENA married RAMON VERA CRUZ and out of this wedlock were born 1) RAMONCITO, 2)LYDIA(+), 3)FLOR (+), 4)EVA (+), 5)PONCIANO, 6) JUSTO (+), and 7)BIENVENIDO.
LYDIA, FLOR, and JUSTO died during infancy. EVA who remained single, passed away at age 64, on April 21, 1988.
RAMONCITO, Municipal Mayor of Unisan (1967-1971; 1980-1986) who died in February 1989, married LEONILA CASTRO from UNISAN. They have thirteen (13) children, namely:
FILOMENA (Sr. MENY), is a Cenacle Sister.
PLARIDEL (DING), married to DONG BUAN and has one daughter named AMANDA. DING is with the Department of Agrarian Reform and DONG works as teacher in Brent.
Dra. LYDIA, based in Fremont, CA is managing a doctor's office, married to PEPE QUEBEC who works with NASA. She has two children named KRISTIN and CLAUDE.
CECILLE, based in Mountainview, CA married to JOHN NEWMAN who is her second husband. She has three children from her first husband, RAMON FLORES, named MARK, KATRINA, and DINO.
VIC, single is based in Union City, CA and works as a proofreader in a newspaper company.
TEDDY, single, is a professor of European Languages at the University of the Philippines.
JESS, who lives in Panaon, Quezon is a coconut farmer and married to FLORENCE DOTADO. He has two boys named GABRIEL and RAFAEL.
IRENE, based in Union City, LA and works in a medical company and has a son, ENRIQUE.
BONG, married to CHAT MAPANAO, works as a cashier at Ateneo University. They have three children: RAMONCITO, CARLA, and MICAELA.
MEL, single, based in Union City, works as visual artist.
AL, based in Union City, married to CLAIRE BAUTISTA, and works in the cycle counter, inventory department of an American painter's warehouse. They have two girls named ARIELLE and ALYANA.
NOEL, married to ANA GALLARDO, is based in San Diego, California, and is with the US Navy.
CARLO, single, based in Union City works in an employment agency.
Dr. PONCIANO is an EENT Medical Practitioner and has his clinic at UDMC. He married CARMELITA ESPIRITU and they have eight (8) children namely:
FERNANDO (NANDING) now blessed with one child DIANA.
MARIA FLOR (FLOR) whose son by her first marriage to RUEL BEJASA (BUTCH) is DERRICK STEVEN. Her second marriage to WILFRIDO PANAJON (WILLIE) gave her two children, namely, GUIA and MARCO. They are now residents of Anaheim, CA.
Dra. CARMENCITA (MITA) an EENT specialist is married to Dr. AMADO DIZON (TALOY), an Orthopedist. Their children are ANTHONY (ANTON) and ALVIN. They all reside in Baguio City.
MARIA CRISTINA (KRYSTEE) is married to JOSE ABCEDE, JR. (CHARLIE) and their only child is JOSIAH.
MARIA EDNA is a registered nurse, married to ALEJANDRO DEAN (ALEX). They have three children namely MARY CATHERINE (CATHY), CHRISTIAN (IAN)and ALEXANDRA (SANDRA).
Dr. PONCIANO, JR. (JUN) is married to Dra. NERISSA GARCIA (NINI) from San Antonio, Nueva Ecija. They have two children namely, NERI ANNE PATRICIA (AYI) and NORIELE PATRICK (OYI).
Dr. LORENZO (LARRY) is also an ENT practitioner like JUN and MITA. He is married to Dra. MARIA CARMELITA NUIQUE (MEL), an anaesthesiologist. Both are practicing in Dumaguete City. They have five children namely, LAURENCE MICHAEL (MIKE), LORENZO, JR. (JR.), PATRICK, RAPHAEL (RAFFY) and VINCENT CARLO (CARLO).
DAVID is the last but not the least. He is still single and negotiable. He resides in LA, California.
BIENVENIDO married MIGUELITA CARMONA, who passed away on April 21, 1990. He is a lawyer, City Fiscal of Lucena City in 1962-1975, Judge of Court of First Instance in Cabanatuan City and Nueva Ecija in 1975-1983, Judge of Regional Trial Court in Quezon City in 1983-1984, and Associate Justice of the Sandiganbayan in 1984-1986. They have eight children, namely:
BIENVENIDO, JR. (GOODIE), who has been with Philippine Airlines for the past 20 years has two children by his first wife CHONA LIMLENGCO, namely JOSE MIGUEL (MICKY BOY) and RAMON LEONARDO (LEO), and two by his second , JOJO HERRERA, namely: KATRINA and PAOLO.
RAMON, III (MONCHING) who is now operations manager of a computer company in LA, California, has two children by DELIA URIBE, namely CAMILLE and CELINE. He resides in North Hollywood, CA.
CLARISSA who is with the Administrative Department of Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, CA is married to HENRY TEMPLEMAN, a forensic technologist at the San Jose, CA Police Department. They have two children, namely KARL and CHANTEL. They reside in San Ramon, CA.
DANIEL (DANDOY) who is Assistant Manager of Inns of America in Redwood City, CA, is married to MAUREEN BYRNE. They have one child COLLEEN, who is now five (5) months old. They reside in Daly City, CA.
CARLOTTA (ALOT) is a licensed nurse in LA, CA and is married to MISHA LANZAT, a Doctor of Podiatry who has his own private clinic in LA. They reside in Sta. Monica.
CELESTE (MALET) is with Franklin's, an investment company in Foster City, CA and is married to BOY DELA ROSA, also with the same company. They reside in Hayward, CA.
ROLANDO is connected with Apo Cement and is married to FATIMA (AMY) UNSON who is with PLDT. They have two children, namely, STEPHEN MARCUS and TRICIA.
CARINA, the youngest, is with Citibank and recently married PETER GONZALES who is also with a computer factory.
Finally, we feel we cannot end this historical presentation without giving due recognition to the late JOSE (FRED) CARRILLO and his brother BIENVENIDO (BEN) CARRILLO, as well as ANTONIO (TONY) CARRILLO whom we have treated as our own, for indeed, they are; the blood running in their veins is LOLO JOAQUIN's, the blood of a CARRILLO.
