Coaches

 

 

General Information:

1. Practice activities are coordinated by the Gymnastics Director.

2. There are usually 4-6 coaches at each practice.

3. Adult staff are USAG safety certified, take the USAG coaching accreditation course CPR, first aid, and other YMCA training.

4. Most staff members are former gymnasts, or have previous coaching experience.

5. All coaches can work at all events. A designated coach is in charge of each event and responsible for keeping updated on all rules and requirements for that particular event.

 

 

Responsibilities:

1. Organize practices, make team rules, and enforce the rules (rules and enforcement policies require prior approval of Gymnastics Director, see code of conduct.

2. Organize meets (rotation order, judges’ assignments, etc.)

3. Make decisions on correct placement of gymnasts in competitive levels.

4. Select team uniforms and handle details of sizing, ordering, etc.

5. Work to keep open communication with parents concerning the program.

6. Consider the mental, emotional, and physical readiness of the gymnast at all times, and strive to teach them sound values in the following ways:

             A.          Development of respect for self, teammates, opponents, and fair play

             B.          Keep winning in perspective

             C.         Broad participation

             D.         Encouragement of lifetime involvement in physical activity

             E.          Development of self-confidence and leadership skills

             F.          Follow all YMCA programs, Zone, NEO League, National YMCA, and 

                      USAG gymnastics rules
