Your family is your heritage. Beside the fundamentals of love, security and correct moral and spiritual values, you leave them memories and ties to their past. Often this past disappears when the older generations pass on. Researching a family history is a time consuming endeavor and many do not wish to spend the time it takes. However, it is not necessary to research your ancestors back to the very beginning. An excellent start can be made by simply writing down what you remember and that you know to be true.
Include as many dates, such as births, deaths, marriages, etc. as you can. Especially those you know for sure. You can ask others preferably those whose memories go the farthest back for as much information as you can gather. If even that is too much anything you record now will be invaluable in the years to come.
Gather all the family photos you can find include them with your document. Pictures of the older generation that are in danger of being lost forever are especially important.
