This page is intended as a resource for Celtic culture and genealogical research. Before I get started on that I would like to mention an organization that could use the support of all people of Scottish descent. The Scottish National Party. I feel strongly that this ancient and proud nation should
be allowed to take it's rightful place on the world stage and make it's own
laws. Anyone of like mind can link to this party by clicking on the link below.
You will be in good company, Sean Connery is a member.
Now for the McCall genealogy. The McCall name is very old and originally
Gaelic. The Gaelic spelling is MacCathail(according to Black's "Surnames of Scotland.") Clan association, besides the
family itself, has for centuries been with the ancient Clan MacDonald.Anyone interested in more information
about that clan and membership in Clan Donald U.S.A.may click
on the link below for more information. The images above are the Saltire, the national flag of Scotland and below that the
clan crest of Clan Donald. The motto is PER MARE PER TERRAS (By Sea, By Land).
The
farthest back that I have been able to trace so far is my Great-great-great
grandfather, Thomas McCall. Thomas is believed, according to family tradition,
to have come from the Isle of Skye. It is known that he married a lady named
Mary Christie in Newburgh, County Fife on November 24, 1823. They had at least
four children whose names I have been able to find. Their names were Janet,Mary,
William and Andrew Yule McCall. It is also known that Thomas was a hand loom weaver and his wife, Mary, was a power loom weaver. Thomas, and at least one of his sons did weaving of tartan. For my full direct line of McCalls, follow the link at the bottom of the page to The McCall Name Researcher's Page.
