How could winning the lottery be anything other than a good thing. Most problems in American households are due to a lack of money. So, if you all of a sudden came into money it should help solve most of the problems.

Now the reason for this article. Recently, I have seen several reports, both talk shows and news interviews, with individuals who say that winning the lottery ruined their lives. I could not understand how this could be. So, I continued to watch the shows. All of a sudden it dawned on me. These people are ignorant individuals. Please let me explain.

Story #1:

A man in his mid 30's won the lottery for 1.7 million dollars. He went on to say that he has had to claim bankruptcy, sell everything he owned, etc. Then he proceeded to tell the rest of his story. Upon finding out he won 1.7 million dollars, he went out on a spending binge. He purchased a 1.2 million dollar home, new cars, furniture, presents for family and friends. He quit his job. When he was finished he had spent 2.1 million dollars on credit. As it is he only gets 1.7 million over 20 years minus taxes, so in reality he will receive approximately 1.1 million. Now did the lottery ruin his life or did being an ignoramus ruin his life? My vote is he was an ignoramus.

Story #2:

A woman went on to explain that her marriage ended in divorce 2 years after winning the lottery. When she began telling her story it became clear that their marriage was in trouble from the beginning. Prior to winning, she had caught her husband having an affair. They were not even sleeping in the same bed. Maybe winning the lottery allowed her to remain married for two years longer than they otherwise would have been.

There are many more stories that happen, such as problems with family members that want more and more. People spending more than they won, etc.

But, the bottom line is...If you use your brain and get financial guidance, if needed, winning the lottery would be nothing but a blessing.
