After the death of Joseph Michael Gately, Edward, May, and William were
placed in foster homes. Henrietta was sent to England to live with her
Grandparents, and Great Aunt Mary. May wnet on doing domestic housework,
then worked at the Shelbourn Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Edward and William met up and worked at open furnaces, glassblowing.

(Joseph) Michael Gately married Mary Walsh. They started their family in Gloucester City, Camden, New Jersey. Joseph was a musician. He traveled with his young sons, and played in various beer gardens in New Jersey. January 20, 1895 - Joseph traveled to Newport News, Virginia to obtain employment, slipped off the steamboat and drowned. He left 4 children and a pregnant wife. His body was recovered and returned to New Jersey, where a memorial was held at St. Mary's Church. Joseph is interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Camden New Jersey. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Edward was born in NEW JERSEY on 20 JUNE,1885. 1907, Edward married Pearl E. CRAWFORD in Delaware Co., INDIANA. 1910 Baltimore City, MD census lists Edward as a glassmaker. Edward and Pearl were members of St.Jerome's Catholic Church, in Baltimore, MD. 1918 The draft card found on Edward for WWI shows his occupation as clerk for Bartlette Hayward Co. 1920 Baltimore City, MD census lists Edward as a musician. He was a member of Feldmann'S City Park Band, Baltimore Maryland Bartlett- Hayward Band and Cupero's City Park Band. Edward died in Baltimore City on 13 February,1922. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The surname GATELY originated from County Roscommon,Ireland. It has taken years of research to find our ancestry connecting the Roscommon Gately's. Patrick Gately was born about 1823 in Roscommon !
