Our Foster Schnauzers
Black Jack and Heidi
"Black
Jack" and "Heidi" were brought to the Lewis & Clark
Humane Society in Helena, Montana on 3/18/97 as pictured, after their elderly
owner had a stroke. Euthanasia was recommended. Who would want them? I
really hate seeing any Mini Schnauzer going down so I bargained for groom
jobs first to see what we had. Our volunteer groomer spent a whole day
on Heidi, a 7 yr. old S/F. Fortunately, an elderly lady came in at "half-time"
and was so smitten with Heidi that she adopted her the next day. Heidi
loves her big new yard which she now claims as HERS. She also loves her
new owner who promptly took her door to door to meet all the neighbors.
Black
Jack was adopted by a nice couple in E. Helena. He now shares a
home with two other larger dogs and a parrot. One morning Black Jack's
new "mom" awakened to what sounded like a very muffled Schnauzer woofing
coming from the front room. She jumped up very alarmed thinking
something had happened to Black Jack, only Black Jack was fast asleep
beside her. She quickly ran to the front room to investigate. "Oh
great, just what we need, a parrot that has learned to do Schnauzer
imitations". And that's just what they have. Black Jack is still trying
to figure it all out.
Meet Fritz! Fritz
is a 3 year old Miniature Schnauzer whose owner died. The police found
Fritz sitting faithfully by his owners body and took him to the Lewis &
Clark Humane Society. Relatives were contacted but they preferred Fritz
be euthanized. No one wanted him. Poor Fritz, now scared and confused began
marking his kennel with great gusto. Unfortunately "marking"
made him non-placeable so once again Fritz’s future looked bleak.
Then Fritz got lucky. A trip to the hairdresser’s produced a purebred Schnauzer instead of a Terrier cross. We adopted him, got him neutered, and had his teeth cleaned. Fritz was then transferred to a new foster home (non-carpeted house) for "leg lifting 101." He graduated with honors two days later and even made a public apology for his prior indiscretion. Fritz was adopted by a young couple in East Helena and now accompanies his mom to work each day
Bosco a 4 year old neutered male salt/pepper Mini Schnauzer came to the Lewis & Clark Humane Society along with his "brother" Bubba, the Scotty. Bubba got adopted right away and left to become a therapy dog at a local
nursing home. ( Rumor has it that Bubba has since promoted himself to administrator.) Bosco, however, had a few traits which made him less placeable, being he didn't like kids and wasn't wild about men either. We sponsored Bosco for a trip to the groomers. Then we found a Mini Schnauzer rescue person willing to take him in Boise, Idaho, so we pooled our resources and flew him down. Bosco placed six hours later to, get this, a single retired man. They've been inseparable ever since.
Beggers cant be choosers, eh, Bosco?
Simba
Simba, an 8 mo. old salt/pepper Mini Schnauzer came to us from the Deerlodge Humane Society, fifty miles from Helena. Off to the groomers he went, then ta da. There really was a Mini Schnauzer under there. Simba was adopted by a Butte family where he continues to thrive. Simba is now known as "Nick".
