Here's what Har eats now. He is an 83 pound, 5 year old Labrador.
Supper every day is raw chicken or turkey necks; or chicken backs. I run them under hot water, hacking up the big pieces and taking the excess fat off. Har is very soft-mouthed so I have to make sure the stuff is relatively "bite-sized".
Breakfast is a Billinghurst-style "pattie" meal I prepare in advance: pulped (via Juicer) veggies including carrots, lots of greens, a couple of apples, an avocado, other veggies .... plus organic eggs with shells, cottage cheese, ground turkey or chicken ... other stuff as seasonal... to each meal I add flax seed and cod liver oil, liquid Vitamin C and Vitamin B Complex, Kelp, 1000 mg Ester C, Shark Cartilage, Glycoflex and Glucosamine/Chondroitin for his hips, & 200 IU Vitamin E.
Oh, and sometimes I add organ meats like heart, liver or ugh, whatever that stuff is called ... gizzards? He also loves the blood that collects at the bottom of the bag :-) Also canned pumpkin for any digestive upset (rarely happens) and tinned sardines (bones & skin) in water (no salt) for a special occasion.
For treats he gets "liver biscotti" (All natural, no preservatives, USDA select beef liver, guisto's organic whole wheat flour, guisto's 20% bran, flour, water, fresh carrots, eggs, garlic, parsley and baking powder). This is the only "grain" product he eats.
For a VERY special treat, he gets half a "macho stick" which is a dried, uh, bull's penis. Much better than rawhide !!!
I get both of those at the SitStay.com store. You can also get biscotti at DogToys.com. They come as teeny pieces that go a long way.
I also give him a whole carrot to munch on, or stalks from the broccoflower that I buy for my guinea pig. Har loves veggies!
But he cannot eat any corn or nut type products. He hates garlic, yogurt, olives! He is almost 2 years post-Mast Cell Tumor (stage 1) and doing GREAT. He's been raw since 10/98.
