Discovering how our ancestors made it through tough times can keep alive the
qualities that help us endure and enjoy our own dreams.
One man told his
grandchildren of the faith of their greatgrandfather, a farmer who lost tractors,
farm machinery, and several tons of expensive fertilizer in a devastating fire.
He fought the flames, but to no avail, and everything was lost. He told his
grandchildren that he remembers his father falling to his knees before the horrifying
sceneand praying. Then his father turned to his crying wife and children and said:
"It's now in the hands of the Lord. He will bless us through this." As the days passed,
neighboring farmers rallied to his aid, freely giving him equipment, the use of their
tractors, and the needed fertilizer. He worked hard and his crops flourished, producing
more that year than any preceding year. This family witnessed the blessings of faith.
As we share our experiences, they, too, will be a guide for our children and
grandchildren. ". . . lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, . . .
but make them known to your sons and your grandsons." Deuteronomy 4:9 (NASV)
As we do this with our own posterity, the legacy of faith will go on.
