My McClellan(d) line is from Pulaski County, Illinois. We are primarily African American. My gg-grandfather was Mulatto however. I have been unable to trace the line before him.
I am interested in corresponding with anyone who has information on the McCLELLAN (D)family from Tennessee. Information from a great-aunt indicates the family resided in Paris,(Henry County) Tennessee. My gg-grandfather was Richard MCCLELLAN (D),he was ma
ried to Sallie RUTLEDGE. Sallie also has been listed as Sarah in a couple of censuses. Richard was born in Tennessee in 1839, but indicated both of his parents being born in North Carolina.
Although Richard and his family were listed as Mulatto on most censuses, a picture of him reveals that he looked Caucasian (White). Their children were Luther (Nov, 1859), Ella (1862),
Fanny (1864), James Witt (my g-grandfather, born Dec, 20, 1867), Josie (1869), Nanny (1871), Flora (1874), Mary (1876), Minnie (1878), Flora (Mar, 1876), Warn (Aug, 1879), John (May, 1881),
Lula (1884), Alice (Nov, 1887) and Clatie (Jan, 1889). The family was found in the Pulaski County Illinois censuses from 1870 through 1920.

We are researching for more information on PENELOPE C. McCLELLAN born May 1811 in TN and married JESSIE THOMAS on 6 May 1828 in Hardeman Co., TN.
Penelope's parents per census were both born in GA. Who know's if this is correct.
Our Penelope with her husband left Hardeman Co., TN abt 1834 and then migrated on to MS and then to Texas. They are found in the 1850 & 1860 Anderson Co., TX Census.

Seth married 1) Matilda Campbell b. 1845, Wisconsin They were
apparently divorced. In 1880 census I found her and Robert Carlton McClellan (son of Seth and Matilda) living with Alonzo Kibber as Head of Household and Carlton listed as Step-son.
Seth married 2) to Jennie (I think, Folmsbee) in El Dorado, Kansas. They had a son, Charlie Alexander. Were divorced when Charlie about 12 years old.
Seth is possibly the son of Robert Geo. McClellan who was Sheriff for Racine, WI ~1830/1840's. His mother would have been Mabel Young. He would have had a sister younger then him, don't know her name. He would have had a 1/2 brother older then him, Geo
