Goldfish or Koi
That is a million dollar question, and you can send me payments one dollar at a time if you wish. Seriously, though, there should be a lot of research and thought into what species of fish you put into your water garden. Koi are without a doubt beautiful, but, they love to tear up the plants. So if you are going to have a lot of ornamental plants with any investment at all, you might want to consider goldfish. Some goldfish are very attractive, but I have found that the looks of the fish is not what I, nor most persons see after a short period of time. It is the feeding habits. Koi are very aggressive feeders and are wonderful to watch, but so are some goldfish. Truthfully, I have found that the Most fun fish to watch feed and grow are the good ole .39 centers at the bait shop. About half live, and of those that live, they do very well. Also, you are not out much money. If you buy a $50.00 fish and Henry is floating at the top after a storm, you might be a tad upset. But if it were a .39 center, the pain is eased considerably. Do the research, go to a lot of water gardens in your area, or a pond show, and do not be sold something, you buy it...
