Earnshaw
My Earnshaw ancestors were all born in Rotherham in the then West Riding of Yorkshire, now South Yorkshire.
At the age of 17 in 1924/25 my Father Norman Earnshaw emigrated to Australia because of the shortage of work here in England. He worked on farms out there for two years but found that there was a shortage of work there too. So, at the age of 19 in 1926/27 he decided to 'jump ship' with his best mate Percy Burrows. They buried their belongings on the beach and stowed away finally reaching Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Eventually they stowed away again and this time reached South Africa where they did exactly the same and reached Southampton.
Of course, this is only a synopsis of what the total story is but I am trying to find out details from Australia as to when my Father arrived in Fremantle, Nr. Perth, W. Australia. I believe he travelled on the RMS Oronsay, of the Orient Line but have yet to find any details of his entry into the Country. One day! One day!. This is the reason I started researching my Family History.
