SUNDANCE - 2/5/00 |
||||
We wanted to start off doing just a half day while acclimating to the altitude and getting our ski legs so we went
to Sundance on Saturday, 2/5. It's about an hour south of Salt Lake City and it's a beautiful drive. We also thought
we'd stop in and visit Bob (Redford) but he was out of town so we left a message and told him we'd try to stop
back down his way before we had to go home. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out. |

This is Bridal Veil Falls. You pass this on the way to Sundance. If you look closely, below and to the left of the peak you'll see a building perched on a ledge of rock. This is a restaurant. It can only be accessed with a cable car (that is no longer working). The whole thing is for sale.

This is the view from the summit of Sundance.

Another view from the summit, looking a little more to the west. That's Lake Utah in the distance.

View from the summit looking northeast and down towards the base area. The large snow covered plateau a little above the center of the picture is Robert Redford's estate.

This a very rare photo of Amy at the summit. It is rare because Amy is almost always completely covered anytime she is outside at a ski area. Needless to say, it was pretty warm. As I recall, the afternoon temps were in the upper 40s.

Sunset at Sundance! The high, wide peak is Mount Timpanagos.

The base area is very quaint with this stream running through the middle. The cabin-like structure is a small restaurant that contains the actual bar used by the "hole-in-the-wall gang" in the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". All of the buildings are this style and very well maintained. The Sundance Film studio is about 50 yards from here. |
