Poetry Story
THE STORY OF HOW I BEGAN TO WRITE POETRY

In 1981 I began to suffer with depression associated with manic-depressive disorder and had to be hospitalized for it.  I spent many hours in counseling to deal with problems.  By 1985 I found I needed a way to express what I knew in my heart and  asked the Lord to help me.  I wanted to express the love I have for my

SAVIOR AND MY LORD JESUS CHRIST

One Saturday I was mopping my kitchen floor when the following poem came to me.  As the floor dried I sat at the dining table and wrote the poem exactly as you see it here. The poem was written in 15 minutes and I have never changed a single word. As I read it, I was amazed at what I was reading.
The next day I took a copy of the poem to my Pastor and asked him to read it.  He read the poem and looked at me and said,  "Pat, this is a wonderful poem,  you should keep writing."
I responded, "Pastor, I won't write another poem for 20 years."
Still he encouraged me to keep writing.  And as of this day I have written over 2,000 poems.
I hope all who enter here will find a blessing or comfort from the poems which I know the Lord has given me.
FREE TO BE ME

All these years I've struggle to be,
What someone else wanted, but not me.
When facing the mirror what I saw,
Was always one who was bound by the law.
Till in my minds eye I saw Jesus' face,
And truly understood His loving grace.
Now I am free to be all I can be,
A wife, a mother, a friend and even me.
I may not be rich in what the world can give,
But with the love of others I can truly live,
The life that God so lovingly gives me,
To serve my dear Lord, and be all I can be,
ME!

THE HANDS OF GOD
The hands of God comforted me,
As I crossed that stormy sea,
The comfort they brought, I feel still,
And I know I'm in God's will.
So when storm clouds are black,
You can know that God's not slack.
For what He has begun in you,
He's ready to fulfill it's true.
So keep trusting with each passing day,
And keep following Him the only Way!

HE STOOD BESIDE ME

Life seemed a puzzle that did not fit,
And I couldn't make much sense of it,
That's when I told Jesus I'd made a mess,
And asked if He would come and bless.
And as I looked into His kind face,
He put all the pieces in their place.
He stood beside me and dropped them in,
Where shortly before there had only been sin.
Now I can rest in His loving grace,
And look up so I'll see His kind face.

TRUST IN JESUS

If our love for Jesus truly is pure,
The trials of this life, we can surely endure.
If we take it to Jesus, who dwells on high,
His ear will be open, to our outcry.
So trust in Jesus, with all your heart,
And from your side, He'll not depart.
Psalm 7:1-7 -Patricia Lawrence
