Favorite recipes of the Rays
HOT WATER CHOCOLATE CAKE
Submitted by my mother, Elma Shaffer
"This has been a fovorite for all my family for 40 years."2 eggs (beat)
2 C sugar (beat)
1/2 C lard (beat)
Note: Do not subsitute lard! (other shortening does not turn out as well)
1/2 C sour milk or buttermilk
2 level tsp soda dissolved in a little water
1 tsp vanillaSift together:
1/2 C cocoa
2 C flour
pinch of saltAdd to first mixture.
Last - - Stir in with a spoon 1 cup boiling water.
Pour into a greased and floured 9"x11"x2" cake pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes.

Mix well. Bake at 275 for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
