"For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh." --Philippians 3:3 The True Essence Of Worship We are called to put away all of the toys and trappings of worship, to become a true worshipper having no confidence in our talents. It is not about how well we play an instrument, how beautifully we sing on key, how graceful we dance before men. It is however all about Jesus. We've performed for so long we have begun to call our "Acts of worship" Worship. It is from the heart? A heart that has become undone and broken before the Lord? Or is it something we learned to do out of habit because, "we've done it like this for years." There must be a heartfelt devotion to our worship or it just comes across as a false appearence of something that we have called worship. Is our love of the Lord real or are we pretending, putting on a show because people are watching and we want people to believe we are heavy into worship. Being in the presence of God has a price. Looking foolish, outrageous. Where has the integrity of worship gone? We must get it back for the Lord is seeking after those true worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. We must follow hard after the Lord, run after Him, become a God chaser braking forth so the world can experience His glory. Going to The Next Level Who is worship for? Is it for us to get a spiritual tickle? We are to lead God's people... watch me, see me worship. That attitude is an attitude of a dishonest worshipper, someone who focuses himself on the achievements of his art. We are to be creative yes, Jesus is the creator of all, but is our art the focus or is it Jesus? We have compromised and minipulated the Holy Spirit. Let us take time to get on our knees and ask the Lord to forgive our showmenship. He deserves so much more than just a show, He deserves our praise, our devotion. Begin to ask the Lord to melt away the false images that we're holding on to of ourselves, so that we can be broken before Him again. God must become our only audience. Worship is not a physical act, it is an expression of the heart that is devoted to God. It is not about us, it is all about Jesus. |
