The Cherry Family's Fire Page

We had a big house fire on May 4, 1998. We lost almost everything. But we are ok now. We got lots of help from our family and friends, and folks at our church. We lived in an apartment for 5 months, which wasn't the same as a house. But it had a POOL! So it wasn't too bad. Our Mommy and Daddy made sure that everything is ok and we were safe.

Here's what the house looked like after the fire. It looked MUCH worse inside - it was basically gutted. It started in our Daddy's office (in the middle of the downstairs) and went up and back. Andrew and Michael's room is above that room, and it was completely destroyed. There was a big hole in the roof, and it rained in. Lots of other things were either burned up or not saveable, including all our toys and clothes and most of the furniture. It was really scary.

We're glad we weren't home when it happened!

Here's what our house looks like now. A lot better, huh? You can't even tell there was a fire. And it's all new inside, including our rooms and the kitchen and EVERYTHING. It's not even scary or smoky. And now we've got some new toys and clothes and furniture and stuff. So we're doing good. We moved back in the middle of October, so we can play with our friends in the neighborhood and climb the trees in the back yard. We're happy to get back home!
