Funeral Held Today for Mrs. Walsh, Inver Grove Pioneer
.....Funeral services for Mrs. Johanna Walsh, pioneer resident of Inver Grove, were held from the Shepard funeral chapel, 141 Fifth Avenue South, at 8;30 a.m. today and from the St. Augustine's Catholic church at 9 o'clock. Burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery, Inver Grove.

.....Mrs. Walsh had lived in the vicinity of Inver Grove for 81 years. She was born in Oswego, NY and when 2 years old was brought here by her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Lant Ryan. Mr. Ryan was stone mason and worked at his profession in St. Paul, assisting in the construction of many of the old stone structures in St. Paul. There was at the time no train or streetcar transportation so he walked from his home over to the river where he took the ferry across and then walked the rest of the way. He remained in St. Paul during the week coming home Saturday evenings and returning on Monday morning. His sons took charge of the small farm.
.....Mr. and Mrs. Ryan lived here during the time of the New Ulm Indian uprising and were visited many times by Indians who were on their way to that city. Mrs. Walsh recalled that one day her mother had just taken several loves of fresh bread out of the oven. As she looked up an Indian stood at the window and made motions for a contribution. So she gave him two loaves and he went on his way with a loaf under each arm.
.....When the alarm of the Indian uprising spread through the villages the people living in this vicinity took their families and trekked up the river past the village of Kaposia and on to St. Paul. The men in the party then returned to their homes here to care for their stock while the women and children were protected in St. Paul.
.....Mrs. Walsh had related many other interesting events in her early life to her family and friends.
