Wilmette Community Guide
Community Overview
Wilmette is a village of about 27,000 15 miles north of downtown Chicago. While primarily residential, there are several retail shopping areas including the downtown, Plaza del Lago and Edens Plaza. School children are served by elementary districts 37 and 39, and New Trier High School District 203. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94/Edens Expwy., I-294/Tri-State Tollway), and major local roads (Lake Ave., Skokie Blvd./U.S. 41, Willow Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 20 minutes (Express). Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info.
