Vernon Hills Community Guide
Community Overview
Vernon Hills is a village of about 16,000 40 miles north of downtown Chicago. The town, while largely residential, has industrial and commercial development, including Hawthorn Center and the Corporate Woods Complex. Recreational/Cultural opportunities include the programs and facilities of the Park District. Most grade school-aged children attend district 73 schools, while secondary students go to Adlai Stevenson High School, district 125 or Libertyville High School, district 128. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94/Tri-State Tollway), and major local roads (U.S. 45, I-21/Milwaukee Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Milwaukee District North Line (MD-N) in Lake Forest. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 60 minutes.
