South Barrington Community Guide

Community Overview

South Barrington is a village of about 2,900 35 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The Barrington area consists of several communities including Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington, North & South Barrington and Inverness. Barrington is considered the most urban of these communities. Recreational opportunities include the offerings of the Park District and natural areas along the Fox River, including lakes, creeks, woods and wetlands. The Public Library offers programs for children, including storytimes, and others, such as Book Discussions and Coffee Houses, for adults. Most school children attend Unit (K-12) District 220 schools, though some are served by district 15. Local nonpublic schools include four Catholic schools. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-90/Northwest Tollway), and major local roads (I-59). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 65 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
