McHenry Community Guide

Community Overview

McHenry is a village of about 16,000 53 miles northwest of downtown Chicago in the Chain O'Lakes region. Recreational opportunities include the numerous lakes in the areas and the facilities surrounding them. Grade school-aged children attend district 15 schools, while secondary students go to McHenry East or West High Schools, district 156. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-294/Tri-State Tollway), and major local roads (I-173/Rosecrans Rd., I-83, U.S. 45). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra in Fox Lake.
