Homewood Community Guide

Community Overview

Homewood is a village of about 19,000 25 miles south of downtown Chicago. While primarily residential, Homewood has had recent commercial development, with more planned. The town, along with neighboring Flossmoor, has an active Park District program. Grade school-aged children attend district 153 or 161 schools, while secondary students go to Homewood-Flossmoor High School, district 233. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94/Calumet Expwy., I-294/Tri-State Tollway), and major local roads (Dixie Hwy., Western Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Electric Line (ME) and by Amtrak. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 40 minutes (express).
