Flossmoor Community Guide
Community Overview
Flossmoor is a village of about 8500 25 miles south of downtown Chicago. Flossmoor is a quiet residential community with few through streets. The town, along with neighboring Homewood, has an active Park District program. Grade school-aged children attend district 161 schools, while secondary students go to Homewood-Flossmoor High School, district 233. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94/Calumet Expwy., I-294/Tri-State Tollway),and major local roads (Governors Hwy., Western Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Electric Line (ME) and by Amtrak in Homewood. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 40 minutes (express).
