I have always enjoyed watching birds. My favorites are the Humming Bird and the Blue Bird. I have been trying to bring back the Blue Bird to our area by building nests for them. This is a dying breed and we must do our part to try to get them back into our environment. If enough people care I am sure that we can accomplish this goal.

As a member of The National Home Garden Club I came accross this article about" Designs On Wildlife" by Kevin J. Cook.

He promotes wildlife gardening as an approach to keeping or attracting birds to your property. He listed 6 regions for attracing certain birds and said to be on the lookout!!

Spring affects bird life differently in various ecoregions. For example, in the Desert Southwest and Humid Southeast, many overwhelming birds depart and many migrants pass through without staying, Watch for these birds in your area:

1. PACIFIC COAST

  • Allen's and rufous hummingbirds
  • Vaux's swifts

    2. MOUNTAIN WEST

  • Lazuli buntings
  • Western tangers

    3. DESERT SOUTHWEST

  • Ash-throarted flycatchers
  • Cassin's kingbirds

    4.CONTINENTAL EAST

  • Black-throated blue warblers
  • Chestnut-sided warblers

    5. GREAT PLAINS

  • Cassin's sparrows
  • lark buntings
  • McCown's and chestnut-collared longspurs shift from Southern Plains to Northern Plains.

    6.HUMID SOUTHEAST

  • Chuck-will's- widows
  • Summer tangers
