German Catholic Congregations

Many non-Germans assume that Germany is essentially completely Lutheran. This is a very wrong assumption, as approximately half of all Germans in Germany are officially Roman Catholics. Considering that most Austrians and a good proportion of Swiss Germans are also Catholics, one can see that the influence of the Catholic church on religious life in German-speaking Europe is large.

For historical reasons far fewer Catholics than Protestants emigrated to South Africa and it is therefore to be expected that there would be far fewer German Catholic congregations than for instance German Lutheran ones. German-speaking Roman Catholic Congregations can be found in most major centres in South Africa:
