1 CONT Mr. Marquell died Wednesday at his home. 
1 CONT He was a lifelong resident of Muncie and had retired after 39 years as an 
1 CONC assembly worker at Delco Battery.
1 CONT He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Masonic 
1 CONC Lodge No. 46, where he was past master in 1965. He was also a member of 
1 CONC York Rite; Moose Lodge; Local 489 UAW, and Delco Sympathy Club.
1 CONT Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margaret Marquell, Muncie; his 
1 CONC mother Martha Martin, Muncie; two brothers, john and David McGriff, both 
1 CONC of Muncie, five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and several 
1 CONC nieces and nephews.

1 CONT Muncie -- Martha McConnell Martin, 95 died Wednesday in Parkview Nursing 
1 CONC Center after a long illness.
1 CONT Mrs. Martin was born in Muncie, Attended schools and lived in Florida 
1 CONC from 1960 until she returned to Muncie in 1988.
1 CONT She was a former member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Muncie 
1 CONC and worked for Ball Brothers (now Ball Corp.) for 15 years until she 
1 CONC retired in 1956.
1 CONT Survivors include a son, David McGriff (wife Nora); two daughter- in-law, 
1 CONC Lois McGriff and Marge Marquell, and several grandchildren, great 
1 CONC grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
1 CONT Her husband Oscar B. Martin died in 1989. Three sons, three brothers, and 
1 CONC a sister are also deceased.
1 CONT Services will be at 1 p. m. Saturday in Meeks Mortuary. Burial will be at 
1 CONC later date in the Garden of Memory.

1 CONT Mrs. Cora May Marquell, 66, died at 1:45 o'clock yesterday morning at her 
1 CONC home, one mile east of Muncie on Centennial Pike, following an extended 
1 CONC illness. She was a native of Madison County but had spent most of her 
1 CONC life in Delaware County. Mrs. Marquell was a seamstress at Ball Hospital 
1 CONC for ten years. She was a member of Whitely M. E. Church.
1 CONT     Surviving are two daughters Miss Julia Marquell residence secretary 
1 CONC of the Y. W. C. A. , and Miss Blanch Marquell at home; two sons, Leroy J. 
1 CONC Marquell of this city, and Arthur S. Marquell, stationed at the U. S. 
1 CONC Naval Base at Porto Rico; two sisters; Mrs. Rose Snyder of Wisconsin, and 
1 CONC Mrs. Mayme Bennett of Vevay, Indiana; two brothers, Harley E. Manring an

1 CONT     Arthur S. Marquell, 74, 2110 W. Jackson St. , died Sunday in Ball 
1 CONC Hospital. At one time he was the navy recruiting Officer in Munce. 
1 CONT     He was a Muncie native, a graduate of Central High School and Mr. 
1 CONC Marquell was a chief petty Officer in the U S Navy at the time of his 
1 CONC discharge in 1951 after 30 years of service following  his navy service 
1 CONC he was associated with Jefferson National Life Insurance Co. and more 
1 CONC recently with West Side Reality Co. He was a member of College Avenue 
1 CONC United Methodist Church, Muncie, Lodge 33, F&AM, Fort Wayne Scottish 
1 CONC Rite, Fleet Reserve Association and was a life member of Elks Lodge 245.
1 CONT     He is survived by his wife, Thelma L.; two daughters; Mrs. Randall 
1 CONC Johnson and Mrs. David Crail, Muncie; a son Jerry M., Muncie; a sister, 
1 CONC Miss Julia Marquell, Ft. Wayne; and seven grandchildren.

1 CONC have been abt. 43 in 1850, 53 in 1860 and 63 in 1870.

1 CONT James Marquell is a native born citizen, his birth occurring January 07, 
1 CONC 1844. (in the 1850 census stated 5 years old) on the homestead improved 
1 CONC by his father, Mason Marquell. Of English ancestry, Mason Marquell was 
1 CONC born and reared in Virginia. Migrated from there to Ohio, he lived for 
1 CONC two years in Greene county, from there coming to Delaware county in 1832, 
1 CONC as a pioneer settler; and was here employed as a tiller of the soil until 
1 CONC his death at the age of seventy years. He married Elizabeth Selvey, a 
1 CONC daughter of Samuel Selvey who came from Virginia to this township at an 
1 CONC early day. She was a true Christian and a faithful member of the 
1 CONC Methodist Episcopal Church. Of the children born of their marriage three 
1 CONC survive, namely; William, who served in an Ohio regiment for four years 
1 CONC during the Civil war, and is now in the soldiers' Home at Dayton, Ohio; 
1 CONC Mrs. Lucinda McGallier (McGalliard) and James etc.

1 CONC near correct. Lucinda age 17,  born about 1843, Sarah age 24, born about 
1 CONC 1836. The mother, Elizabeth, is here given the age of 55, born about 
1 CONC 1805. Her age I believe is most likely as being born about 1807, as her 
1 CONC parents are reported to have married in 1806. as for William he is not 
1 CONC located in 1860. I feel the age reported on his grave stone is in error. 
1 CONC His birth may have been as stated in the 1850 census 1835. the 1870 
1 CONC census states he was 34 years in 1870, born 1836. His Grave stone is not 
1 CONC correct as 1842 is inconsistent with other reports.

1 CONT Wheeling --  An Eaton woman died Sunday when her car cashed into a 
1 CONC utility pole west of Wheeling. 
1 CONT    Nellie Marquell, 66, 205 E. Washington St. was driving southeast on a 
1 CONC curve along Delaware County Road 1200-N, near County Road 500-W, when her 
1 CONC car left the road and spun, striking the pole on the driver's door. 
1 CONC Sheriff Aul said.
1 CONT    Maquell's grandson, Jashua Marquell, 12, also of Eaton was taken to 
1 CONC Ball Memorial Hospital, where he was in fair condition with a large cut 
1 CONC on his head.
1 CONT    Aul said the sheriff's Department was investigating the possibility 
1 CONC that Marquell might have been forced from the road by an on coming 
1 CONC vehicle. Aul stress that the investigation hadn't yielded evidence to

1 CONT Mrs. Marquell was born in Muncie and lived most of her life in Desoto. 
1 CONC She was a graduate of Green Township School. Mrs. Marquell retired in 
1 CONC 1975 from Chevrolet - Muncie after 30 years as a machine operator and 
1 CONC inspector.
1 CONT She was a member of Desoto United Methodist Church, Armina Circle, and 
1 CONC Desoto 
1 CONT United Methodist Women.
1 CONT Survivors include her husband of 60 years. Francis Marquell; two 
1 CONC daughters, Sue Ann Steed (husband Wayne) and Wilma McDowell; a son 
1 CONC William Marquell (wife
1 CONT Kathy; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; and a step great 
1 CONC grandchild.
1 CONT Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Desoto United Methodist Church. 
1 CONC Burial will be in Strong Cemetery, Albany.
1 CONT Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Parson-Rust Funeral Home Albany, and an
1 CONT hour before services Tuesday at Desoto United Methodist Church. Memorials

1 CONT    The funeral services will be conducted from the M. E. Church afternoon 
1 CONC at 1 o'clock. Internment will be at Beech Grove Cemetery. It is expected

1 CONT Mrs. Julia Manring, 81, years old widow of Richard Manring and a widely 
1 CONC acquainted Muncie resident, died at her home, 114 North Martin Street, 
1 CONC yesterday morning at 2 o'clock after a six weeks illness of a 
1 CONC complication of diseases. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 
1 CONC 10:30 o'clock in the Normal City M. E. Church, in charge  of the Rev. W. 
1 CONC Earl Pittenger; and burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends are 
1 CONC asked to call at the home as the casket will not be opened at the church.
1 CONT Mrs. Manring had spent the greater part of her life in Muncie and 
1 CONC Delaware County, and she was an active member of the Normal City M. E. 
1 CONC Church and the Women's Relief Corps. 
1 CONT She is survived by two sons, Harley E. and Ernest Manring of Muncie, and 
1 CONC three daughters, mrs Cora Marquell of Muncie; Mrs Lee Snyder of 
1 CONC Wisconsin, and Mayme Bennet, of Vevey, Indiana. Prof. D. Ernest Manring, 
1 CONC director of music in the Central High School, is a grandson.
