Betong

This site is about a little town on Borneo Island ( in case you don't know it’s the third largest island in the world ). And that's in South East Asia. Betong is in Sarawak, the biggest state in Malaysia. It's Chinese name is  ľ ÖÐ. There are about 20,000 people here in the district, and something like 3,000 or so around town. This place is called Betong, named after a kind of local bamboo. ('Buluh betong' ) (please, don't  mistake Betong with Bentong of Pahang. Betong and Bentong are 2 whole different thing. As different as night and day, that is). By the way, there're some things non-Sarawakians should know about Sarawakians (I think Sabahans may be excused):
1. We don't live on trees.
2. The rumah panjai (longhouses) still  exist, and there are many  of them.
3. We are civilised.
4. There are no headhunters in Sarawak. You won't get kill if you come here, don't worry.

* My family and I had moved from Betong to Sibu, end of last year (1998). Even though I'm not living in Betong anymore, it is still my hometown to me because it's where I spent most of my lifetime (about 10 yrs). All my friends are there and I miss them a lot. I still wanted to do this page out of my love for my dear hometown, Betong.
This site will be going under a major reconstruction.
